i don't think they are quite as bad as the mall ninjas say.
i do think that they may be sort of a grab-bag deal. if they happen to have decent parts at the time you order their OK. i do suspect they ship some rejects from time to time.
i would buy from JSE, sherluck ,JT, or sarco since their only a little more expensive. last time i checked blackthorne/hess wasn't but about $40 less than a JSE kit so i don't see how the risk of getting a lemon is worth what little you think you might save.
there are plenty of places to buy ar kits and parts now so shop around some.

I ordered a kit from GunBroker a few months ago, it's the one with the 16" barrel and full length rail handguard that fits over a low profile gas block. The handguard flexes really bad, the barrel nut is only threaded about 1/4", not nearly enough to hold it solid. I'm going to get a real barrel nut, probably a YHM with a locking ring and I think that will fix the problem.
Rest of the kit was fairly good. Just pissed about the barrel nut being a peice of crap. The rail handguard is decent, and it's threaded deep enough to use a "real" barrel nut.

My son bought one of there kits i assembled it and i think its nicer than my rock river ar
finish, upper to lower fit.
a better question to ask is for the folks who own one of there ars to chime in you will get alot of bad from the hesse/blackthorn name

My buddy had a Hesse, it shot fine, no issues, but the finish was bad. Felt like orange peel and was pretty ugly. He got it cheap and it shot well, which was his purpose, I would take reliable over pretty any day.

Ordered a 16" M4 kit from Blackthorne a few months ago. They shipped fast and I received the kit in a few days. I put the kit on a YHM lower. I took it to the range for a test fire and it performed great. The kit looked great with no visible flaws.

ive got a blackthorne upper in 7.62x39.........
mine is perfect and works flawlessly. no issues at all and i had it in 2 days after ordering.
its not as pretty as a rock river in the finish department, but its fine for the $299 i paid for it at the time.
