View Full Version : Garand Barrel Markings

Don't know if someone on here would know or could post a link to a good site for barrel markings.
I picked up a Garand this weekend and was just wondering what the markings on the barrel mean.
The only thing I found is it has a Taiwan mark (a circle inside a circle with some angled lines connecting the two), then a four digit number, 69, 8, M, P.
Any help would be helpful

hey Coils did you try here?
M1 Garand/M14/M1A Rifles - Military Surplus Collectors Forums (http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=108)
or you could try to find Scott Duffs book
i know quite a few years back there were a few Garand forums with some awsome info
but i fell out of the loop-and out of budget-expensive now to collect
hope that helps some
Why not post your question over on Culver's Shooting Page (Welcome to Culver's Shooting Page (http://www.jouster.com)) in the M1/M14 section. I bet someone with knowledge more complete than mine could answer your question. I would submit that the '69' is year of manufacture, as most of our defense partners continued the practice we started of dating barrels with their year of manufacture. Maybe another is plant number or indicates a certain arsenal, but who can say unless they know for certain. Try Jouster or even Garanditis. The knowledge about M1's is likely best accessed through one of those forums.

Is there a drawing # on top of the barrel under the handguard? Some manufacturers put there info there. Somewhere in the CMP website there is (or was) info on who all made M1's and how they marked them.

Thank you everyone.
I'll check out those sites.
Moleman, the only markings are the ones I mentioned and they are on the right side behind the op-rod.
