I know this is a AR15 forum, but I though you guys might know the answer to this one too. I have 4 new Armalite AR10 waffle magazines. They do not fit my Armalite AR10 and I purchased them years ago not knowing this.
I understand that they fit the DPMS AR10 and the Knights Armament AR10. Is this true?
I posted this on the AR forum also.

Yes you are correct. The waffle mags fit the rifles that you mentioned. This pattern has become sort of the standard for 308 AR pattern rifles such as LMT, LaRue, DPMS, Original AR-10, etc.
The exception is the current product Armalite AR-10. It uses a modified M-14 pattern magazine (latest production is purpose made)

Thanks for the info. I bought these years ago when I was just getting into the hobby and didnt know any better. Do you know what original mags like this go for in new condition? I understand it's about $50-$60.

Aluminum or steel? I would trade a kidney for an original steel mag. Also, a 5-round original mag would be evern more dear. (PM me)
For a standard aluminum waffle I would say $50-60 would be a retail value. Some of us who care know where they are cheaper.

The aluminum waffle magazines have to have the catch slot milled/cut in addition to the original. The current SR-25/DPMS type use the same magazine design but with an M16 magazine catch. This moves the slot cutout in the magazine. I think it moves inward but it may be outward. The old magazines are not a straight drop-in fit. The aluminum magazines do not hold up well and were originally designed as disposable magazines. Not for continual reloading/reuse.
