Well she's all finished. Just need to sight 'er in.
Finish is Martin Senour Enamel Heavy Duty "Ruff Neck" Paint, from Napa.
It's a flat black that matches extremely closely to the original AK Finish.
(on both my Bulgy 74 and the AMD)
While it will scuff it doesn't scratch very easily.
I put on 3 coats and baked, after each, over a portable electric heater with an aluminum foil tent.
And then let 'er sit for about 4 days before I re-installed the internals and ran a second test firing session.
Test firing, again, went very well with no problems.
So what do you think?

Oh, and of course, now I need to find a short sling to fit on there.
It just doesn't look right without one.

Excellent! One of the nicest AMD-65's i've seen. :)

I know where he got the handguards, but the set i got came with the plastic pistol grip.
Is that a Polish grip?

Thanks Tom, seeing your AMD is what drove me to doing the wood conversion. So your aproving comment means alot to me.
Yes it is. I couldn't decide between the Bakelite and the wood so I got both. After finishing the wood (handguards and grip) I just had to use the wood grip too.

Delmarksman, Thankyou for that nice comment. Your rifle came out very nice, I showed my wife and told her my next build will look like yours :)

Drooling here! Time for me to e-mail Robert for one of those pistol drips :)

Actually, on the grip, it's about 1.5 times the size (width wise) of the normal plastic, bakelite grip. I wasn't sure if I would like it or how it would feel mounted. The plastic grip is just about right for me for length of pull.
But I do like it and how it feels. It actually fills the hand better.
There is more to hang on to and it doesn't really change the L.O.P. very much,
or should I say not enough to notice a difference.
I want to compare it to say a Para Ordnance wide body vs. a standard 1911 single stack.
Or maybe a Glock 30 vs. 36.
Here is a pic. The photo perspective is slightly porked due to the angle and the fact that the polish grip is attached to the rifle while the other two aren't.
The AMD grip is longer but the Bulgy and the Polish grips are the same length.

Great job Del!

Fine job Del!!!!

Well, well, well...I think it turned out very nice, even though it started as "The Build From Hell"...LOL
It's amazing how much better they look once you get some paint on that receiver. Having it silver or as they say "in the white" just doesn't do it for me.

That looks really good:) Nice work! Is that on a flat or 100% receiver? It was a Tapco Flat.
