Super slo-mo of a lathe tool cutting thru steel, microscope zoomed view...and set to Mozart.
Kind of amazing to see the steel pile up and flow under the shear forces.

Neat! Almost looks like the bow of a ship cutting through the water - but with the wake moving forward!

Anyone notice the "false edge" is doing the actual cutting?

Did you notice the HHS uncoated seemed to have less sub surface disturbance while cutting? Of course the feed rates could have been different, don't know, but it sure apeared to be cutting cleaner with less tearing action and build up on the actual cutting edge and less microscopic chatter,,, Hum,, Interesting, I'm wondering after seeing that if the coated bits are all there cracked up to be other than longetivity wise??
Just what struck my eye.
