Here it is finally for a first build it came out pretty good now for the big question before I weld it on should I use a barrel extension or the long muzzlebreak that will bring it to length let me know guys thanx for all the info and knowledge it is greatly appreciated. Do you guys believe this was a beater kit the trick is to clean the bore with paint stripper and the bore will be super shiny.

You better get that barrel up to 16" before "The Man" burns down your house! :scared:

Congrats on your first build!
Did you leave out a rivet in the rear block "trunnion"?
05-11-2005, 05:58 PM
looks real good, except for the missing rivest and the illegal barrel length... ;)
I think you should get the extended barrel adapter put on there pretty quick like, finish it up and go shoot the hell out of it. Thats what I think.

You should silver solder the extension. Thats what I do on mine. Did you use the textured paint?
Looks great! Whats your next project?

Either adding the Extension or the Extended brake will get you Legal:) Looks nice!

Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbup1:
Looks like an AMD. If that's the case, the 2nd hole on the rear trunnion doesn't worked with the 2nd hole in the flats. But get that thing finished and shoot it.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to answer your queston from my point of view ,,,, use what ever YOU think looks best. BUT DO IT NOW. do not fool around with that too long with a short barrel. it could be a real pain in the butt.. maby real expensive too...
personaly I have an extention , but I have seen both that look good.. you pick!

Thanx for the compliments guys I was just happy it went so smooth I had to put up a pic of it the minute it dried you gotta love silver solder
One more thing should I take my previous pics off or just leave them thanx in advance I just dont want them to bite me in the ass.:scared:

Now that it is compliant I wouldn't worry about it.

I love AMD's.
I would take the pics off anyway. feds aint cool. They lurk around these sites I am sure.
atlantic firearms has an AMD with an extended flash surpressor. looks real good. I wonder who makes them and for how much.

Looks good. What kind of paint did you use?...
05-12-2005, 12:39 PM
Thanx guys for such a quick response I am going to take the pictures down and the paint I used is rustoleum #7220 TEXTURED paint it is so damn tough and scratch resistant.
These home builds are not exactly collectables, and the term "Factory Original" does not applies here.
Why not save the trouble by stay with a standard length barrel, and use the short one on your next pistol build project?
You will like its performance much better anyway.
...I can't speak for anybody else, but my AMD kit didn't come with a standard length barrel, and AK pistols aren't my cup of tea anyway. The 'snake brake' isn't difficult to install, and I've heard some pretty decent range results coming from the issue AMD barrel assembly. (they aren't exactly intended to be target rifles anyway)
As far as collectibility goes, I don't expect many ppl build them to cash in on them at a later date, most ppl just like some semblance of originality I'm guessing. Judging from the C&R market (by example only) weapons of original, or near as original configuration as possible tend to hold their value down the road. Just an observation, mind you. Besides... if those damnable beanie baby's were collectable (remember those??), I can't see how an AK knockoff of a rare-ish varient (maybe down the road) wouldn't be. Factory original? Does my garage constitute a factory? An AK original to my garage??
Too deep for me.
Nice lookin build, by the way! Feels pretty bad-ass with that drum, doesn't it??
What range result are we talking about here? The damn sight radius is too short, I won't even waste my time to aim it.
I am using mine as a lawn mower.
...by all means, mow away! Although your lack of accuracy might have something to do with the admitted lack of aiming thing.
Here's one 100yd range report with both iron sights and red dot optic...
Not as bad as I would've expected from a short barrel in that caliber. With a few tweaks you could probably tighten that group up.
I hear ya... can't put a $100 red dot on every piece.
I was just thinking, strictly for the purpose of testing the accuracy of the piece... if you could put a better trigger in it, run some decent ammo through it, even put a decent, low cost optic (like a 2x long eye relief scope or something).... I wonder what it'd do?? I guess all I'm saying is that it's still gonna be more accurate than a krink varient, or a slingshot.
I haven't had a chance to put mine to the test yet so I can't speak from personal AMD-65 accuracy.
05-13-2005, 12:45 AM
what kind of extension is that?
05-14-2005, 12:07 AM
It is a muzzlebrake made especially to bring the amd 65 to legal length and it is from F.A.C. guns n stuff check the website.

Nice build. Good to be legal. I used the extra rivet hole on my 65 to mount a sling swivel. Picked one up at Wally world for 5 bucks. Workes great. I stuck a short rivet in the other side.

Looking good-- I wondered what the AMD would look like w/o the front PG on it!
