6.5!!:scared: i cut mine down to 8 but i dont see putting a handguard or anything with a 6.5inch barrel and barely no gas tube, i would like to see pic's of that setup:headspin:
EDIT: Nevermind, i think running a krink gasblock you can get it down to about that, the thign is finding that gas block, i have not found one yet

if you have money to burn you could buy a krink kit and chop it down

I just seen the video of that 61/2" pistol. Its on AK files. I think he measured fron the front of the receiver cause it looks to be 8" to me.It looks exactly like my first prototype right down to the in the white receiver and no site.K-Var has krink gasblocks but they are spendy.
This is an AMD with a 9 inch barrel with a handgaurd. I ran the wood to the end on the gas tube as far as I could The metal flange was even shortened a bit to move the wood forward. With an 8" you could either make an ity-bity handgaurd or weld the flange to the gas block (if you use a krink or Romanian gasblock) and extend your wood over both.

well you guys can shorten the barrel, now work on shrinking the receiver!

I have looked at that idea too. Im still working on it. It may require the bolt carrier to be trimed back a couple of ".

Well.. Not a 762x39 but my AK74 based 9mm has the receiver shortened about 1.5"... There is no reason you couldnt do it on an AK..you just need to keep the firing pin/hammer in the same relationship. IF you arent running Full Auto, there should be no problems... gettin it tooo short w/FA would make the RPMs jump way up... All I had to do was just shorten the actual receiver.. The limiting factor is making sure the bolt carrier will completely clear the next round in the mag. With the 9mm the ammo is literally 1/2 as long as with x39 (9x19 vs 762x39.. roughtly 1/2 as long)so you can shorten accordingly and still allow it to feed/load from the magazine....
I think a MUCH shorter AK receiver isnt gonna happen, maybe 2" tops...
DROOG, lets see a gas operated 762x25 pistol... I wanna see someone make one FA with a super light bolt/carrier and use it lockedup/gas operation. Kinda like an MP5, but better...:)

ok just tested my short barreled amd, the gas system seems to be working properly but i am having one problem, i think i identified it but won't know till tomorrow.
with a full magazine it will fire one round, eject it and chamber another round but it will not close all the way, stays about half inch or an inch open, looks like the bolt is hitting the trunion so i might have a rail that is slightly to low, but here is the catch if i drop a round in the chamber with no magazine in the gun, then put an empty magazine in it, it will fire the round and cycle perfect, i can also have it cycle perfect with no magazine and just dropping a single round in it, this issue only happens when there is a magazine in the gun with more then 1 round in it.
i put one round in the chamber and left one round in the clip and was able to do a double tap with no problem, i put 1 round in the chamber and 2 in the magazine and there it goes again, carrier stays open about an inch:confused:

UMM sounds like either your feed lips/magazine isnt lined up correctly, or your side rails are bent up or slightly off center... examin everything closely with the lid off and no spring installed, cycle the carrier back and forth w/a dummy round if possible and you'll prolly figure it out....
My money is on the magazine setup or the lower rails...Did you adjust the width of the ejector?? if its to wide it could cause problems/// good luck!!!

after sacrificing a few live rounds and making them dummy rounds, it cycles perfect by hand no matter how fast or slow you work it, 5 dummy rounds and all are fed and ejected good, i will be looking into the rails and seeing if i find anything weird, will keep you guys updated, thanks

the bottom of the receiver at the selector stop may be bent, check to see if your mag catch rivets are seated properly and that the selector stop is up against the receiver flush and not crooked. Also make sure you have the correct selector stop installed ( ie. a AK-47 on a AK-74 or visaversa)
