New Guy With Marlin 1895G Question.

I have an issue with my Marlin 1895 Guide gun in 45-70 Government. The sighting is way off from the factory, and I'm trying to figure out where the basic 100 yd. setting is for open sights. I've fired close to 6 rounds at $2 a piece through it, and I still cannot cut paper at 100 yds. Also, I can't tell where they hit, and neither can my spotter.

Could someone please tell me where the 100 yd. setting for the rear sight is on this rifle. The sights are the basic rear ramp sights with the standard front post with hood. I am firing Hornady Leverevolution ammo through it.

Thanks

Fun time at range

I was able to get a little family time in during my last customer visit and we went to the range - 3 generations of family - and had a blast (pun intended)!

It was nice to see so many people with AKs of all flavors, even a long barreled .308 Saiga! Also got lots of brass and convinced my nephew about the economy of reloading. It was nice to actually see some brass on the ground, as the local public range here in VA is picked clean by a range officer who allegedly sells the brass and donates to the local boy scouts who, by my reckoning, should be the best-funded scout troop around here. So he claims... :( At least the nephew has started his own little bucket of brass collection and he's all excited about loading up some "free" ammo :)

He and grampa (aka Rookie) had fun loading up some rounds for his bolt action 30-30. I think the funny moment was when some younger guys beside us asked what "the older gentleman" was shooting. I keep reminding dad since he just had a birthday!

While Rookie had some problems with his .357-44 Bain and Davis loads, everything else went off without a hitch (he didn't neck them properly and they fed tightly). All the AK-74s we built "just worked". Now the nephew keeps asking his Uncle Jerry when he's going to get his own AK-74... I figure we'll probably build him one for Christmas! Everything else was just plinking. I must say the 6.5mm Swedish mauser is a joy to shoot!

MIM parts

what do you folks think of MIM parts?

many firearms are being made with them these days and the parts pipelines are flooded with MIM parts.

personally i had rather have a USA made forged part.

i figure a good MIM part would likely be better than an imported forged part that lacks the proper QC or made from low grade steel.

imported MIM is a bit scary. now days you never know what your getting it seems.:scared:

I helped a buddy assemle this today with two brand new $200 Ruger 10-22,s from Dicks sporting goods and a $300 dollar kit. it was pretty simple and drifting out the dovetail sights was about the hardest parts. it took a little to get it adjusted to fire and relase the triggers correctly but once done it spits out some lead. I dont have the hicap mags yet. we have some tatical solution composits coming. It was fun to build. My 9 year old read the instructions out as we tried to figure out were all the pins and parts went. he had a better clue than we did by the time it was done than we did. the kit is vary nicely machined and went to with just a hammer and punch for the sights and a set of allen wrenches. were planning on taking it out on our next praire dog hunting trip LOL :) might make a mount for the AtV if its legal in that state.

I have a "Remington" 1903-A3, #4,000,000. I have been told this rifle is of cheaper quality than the original 1903 Springfield. To me it seems to be a very well put together weapon. Full military, no modifications. Looks nice shoots straight, kills deer well out to 300yds. Then its my eyes not the rifle. Anybody's opinion?

I am looking to buy some surplus 7.62x54 russian ammo. I see there ia a good buy on Russian 147g ammo at Sportsman Guide. There is also some Hungarian surplus and I think Hungary makes good stuff in general. I also see some Bulgarian ammo. I am looking for cans of 440 rounds. What are your opinion on the accuracy of these various rounds? I will pay a little more for the better ammo. Thanks for the info in advance.
