Default 1911 vs. beretta

Went to the range a while back and just for fun challenged my bud to a shooting contest. His military style(m92?) Beretta 9mm against my Rock Island Armory full size GI 1911. 5 rnds each, 1911 group tennis ball size, M92 soccer ball size, 15 yds. Switched pistols, similar groupings. Had a bystander shoot both, same story. This may not be typical of the berettas accurracy but it sure clinched the decision, for me anyway. Any comments?

I had a beretta 96 (same frame as the 92F) and it shot pretty good, but not as well as my other guns so I got rid of it. It should shoot better than a soccer ball though even at 50 yards. I seem to remember the trigger pull was rough and mushy. Oddly enough the best shooting guns I think I've had so far was a 9mm S&W 5946 DAO

I've got a factory brushed nickel commander that won't hit the ground when it's pointed down. Low rounds. Beautiful pistol, won't shoot.

i got an old m9 ie 92fs. one of the bad ones made in the usa. it still has the so called defective block in it.

damn thing shoots very tight groups. it can even hit a tennis ball with wolf steel jacketed ammo @ 25 m--no problemo.

i like the m9/92 series. we got them to replace some very old 1911s that were ww2 collectors items. they shot cow size groups @ 25m.

i have seen a number of 1911 that can do a 2inch @ 25 easy so it depends on the gun the barrel and the ammo. a good m9 is better than a sloped out 1911 and the reverse is true as well.

I suppose it all depends on the individual pistol. I've never shot the berettas much, alway been a fan of the old slabsides. But I knew his beretta had to be a fluke. Maybe a crappy bbl? He sure payed enough for it. We had not switched over before I got out of the Army, so I have no real experiance w/ beretta. Now my P89 Ruger is a real shooter, its my primary carry gun, thou its kinda bulky.

We shoot a mixed course for qual - 25 yard slow fire, down to the 7 yard for quick reaction drills mix of double and single action and 15 yard for magazine change drills, again mix of single and double... I may drop a round or two into the 8 during the slow fire, 7 and 15 are 9's or 10's with mostly X's during the 7 round drills.

9 ring is the size of a saucer? Out of 400 I will usually shoot in the 380's highest ever was a 388. This is with a stock USMC weapon, that has not been treated very well.

I have a 92F - shoots better then our issue weapons, I had it worked on by a Beretta tech. Trigger pull is about 3.5 lbs - and very smooth.

Not a huge fan of the 9mm - actually, not a fan at all. There are certain advantages to the smaller round - females, limp wristed folks who cannot handle recoil etc...plus the whole NATO bullshit thing.

I carry either a Commander 45 or a Firestar .40 due to the ballistic advantage both offer...but your soccer size groups are not the norm for this weapon.

Thanks, I'll have to check on getting his to shoot a little better. He really was,and is proud of his peice. I also totally disregarded his ammo, he may be shooting crap. I have some of my own reloads that shoot very sweet,at least in the ruger. We may have to give them and others a try.

My buddy has a beretta and he can shoot it pretty good, but when we put it up to a good 45 it does not compare.

I have both and both are accurate. I can't tell much difference at 25 yds. At 50 yds on, the Beretta is more accurate. This is shooting cheap Armscor ammo in both guns(boy I wish I could find some more of it) $4.50/box of 50 45's.$3.80/box for 9's.

I used to have a Taurus 92 that would consistently hit a silhouette at 2 of 3 shots off hand at 100yards. I prefer the balance of stopping power and accuracy of the 1911. The clincher for me was more availability of spare parts and accessories for the 1911.
