Carried both the M1911 (& M1911A1), and later the M9 Beretta, for many years in the military. Have to agree with 'J427x' that individual pistols vary greatly in accuracy and critical parts fit. The .45 auto round has the 'knock-down' power needed in close combat; that is why the Army & Marines use the Sig P220 as an alternate pistol. Was never very impressed with the Berettas in my unit - lots of galling problems & stovepipes. Later, when at DOJ we carried Glock mdl. 30 w/Glock 21 mags. Ammo was Federal Hydra-Shok +P. Reliable gun w/great 'knock-down' power, but needs a slide buffer to avoid slide bolt-face cracks.

+ 1 for 1911 in .45, have a SA Inc that is very reliable and accurate.

I have always preferred the 1911 between the two.
