I have seen some threads in the past, but I think Ruger got them pulled....I can't find anything now. As for the stocks, I have built with both, I like the second one. It looks kinda funky, but it feels great when shooting. Go figure! IIRC, you are set up pretty well machine wise. Have you considered just buzzing away at a hunk of aluminum to see how far you can get?
Last thing: 22LR vs. 17HM2...No comparison. Just look at the prices, and you will be cured. I built one for giggles out of a real basket case 10/22, and it is (now) really nice. Small animals tremble at the mention of my name. 22LR is HALF the price if you shop around. 17 gets nice if you like to shoot beyond 150-200 yards.
Thanks for the 10/22 plans. I am going to sue them to make a receiver using aluminum side plates and end blocks joined by U drive screws. When I generate the drawings I'll post them so others can make their own receivers.

I have had a 10-22 my dad gave to me for my 21st birthday WAY back in the day. It is a limited edition three-color laminated stock. Compared to the "normal" 2-color laminate that Ruger sells, it looks extremely nice.
I'm thinking about building (or buying) my wife a target 10-22 so we can do some cheap plinking and hunting together.
So a few questions:
1. Does anyone have any idea if there are 10-22 receiver blueprints? Are there BIY 10-22s out there? The receiver is small enough that I think I could machine one with relative ease.
2. Is .17 HMR worth the extra cash? I've always been a fan of the .22LR for small game stuff, but after reading up on the HMR here and elsewhere I'm starting to wonder if it may be worth the extra cost. We have a good thread here about it:

I've found these two styles in the colors that she really likes:
My father has an old armalite that runs good (it did back in '88 anyway). However, I have a charter arms explorer 2 pistol version, and dang, it took weeks of experimenting before I found out how to get her to run. And she still only eats one type of food, remington "golden bullet" bulk pack. Some swear by CCI mini-mags, they're a bit too hot for it IMO.
I've heard it called the "Jammo-Matic" by some, even me.

Also, parts were at one time incredibly expensive, though I don't know what the last 4 years have done for them.
That being said, they are really neat little guns once you find out how to care for them.
edit: I suppose, though, if you built an ar7, it should be fine. Might wanna make the de-tachable side plate a little thicker if you do.
