Default Compact .45 ACP

I am a new member, and interested in picking up a compact .45 ACP. I tried the Glock 36, but didn't like the fit.

Can you point me to any discussions regarding same, or tell me your experiences?

Thanks,
Brian

I've used a Colt Officer's Model for years. Own several. Shot thousands of rounds through them. Like them a lot. I have big hands but never found the shorter grip a problem. Kimber has some nice looking stuff as does Para Ordance. If it is to be a carry gun give some serious thought to all of these. The shorter grip frame does make for better concealment. The slide length really isn't a factor for concealment. The slide is usually against your body and perpendicular to the ground. The end of the grip is what gives the tell tale buldge. I own a Glock 19 as well but have NEVER been able to get a consistent grip on the thing in the draw which is the secret of accurate shot placement.

Haven't tried one yet, but the new Kahr .45 looks promising. If it's anything like their P9 it should be a very good little pistol.

My favorite compact .45 is a Springfield Armory 1911 officer's model. The Kimber looks nice, but In my opinion you don't get better function to justify the higher cost if you are looking for a gun you will actually shoot and/or carry. I also like the Springfield XD. For big .45's, I haven't found anything that I can shoot better than my HK tatical .45.

I'm a little bit biased here ( no, I'm real biased here ) ..... about 4 years ago I found a Kimber Compact at an estate sale, I suspect it may have had 100 rounds through it. Now, you've got to understand that I'm addicted to the .45 ACP and I have and have carried several .45's over the years. I don't believe you can get a better return on your $$$ spent for a carry piece than by investing in a Kimber Compact Carry ;

No, that's not my ad but it's worth looking into ....

Try renting or borrowing a few different .45 compacts ..... I suspect you'll end-up with the Kimber.

Funny you should quote "The Armory". That gun store is about 8 miles from my home and the source of a safe full of guns at my house. They have been good to me and steered me to many many toys I couldn't do without.

I've got a springfield Micro Compact that I really like. It's accurate enough to hit shotgun shells at 15-20 paces, so it should be good enough for defensive use. It was going to be my carry gun, but I settled on a .357 snubby instead.

BTW, the Springfields are normally about $100-$200 cheaper than the overpriced kimbers.
