Default Got to see a Kriss up close

At the gun show they had one on display! Very nice.

Overall it looks just like the brochure promises. I watched the Future Weapons vid on this again. Lots of promise in this design. I see on their site they are applying the technology to shotguns. Now *THAT* will be an interesting development!

Since it was the only one at the GS they were asking MSRP of $2600 for the "package" deal. Baseline model w/o gizmos on Gunbroker in the $1700 range. I figure they will go down a few hundred bucks in a year or so, after the costs of the initial production run can be recouped.

The only thing I do NOT like is the fact is uses Glock magazines. Everyone knows it too, and are raising prices of the Glock .45 mags. I would be interested to know if any of the aftermarket Glock mags perform well in it.

I'll add this to my long-term toy list

Now this is a great engineering change. Visionary.

Toy is right, it looks like a paintball gun!
I wonder where you hook the co2 tank.

In full auto, the design has merit. In a semi, not so much. I can buy/build a few .45 carbines that use Greasegun mags for $1700.

Right, I agree that for semi it probably won't benefit as much as it would in pure FA. However I do believe it will benefit some. The platform is light, and so unlike a Tommy Gun, it can't rely on weight alone to keep recoil in check. My dad and brother both owned Thompson clones a few years back and they were such a pleasure to shoot! Wish they hadn't sold them...

$1700 is a hefty sum, especially in the current economy. However it does have many good points to condider:

- It is .45 ACP and not something wimpy like 9mm;
- Born and Built in USA;
- The R&D that had to be put into this undoubtedly cost someone (prototype submitted to Army back in 2004),
- Where else are you going to find an evolutionary development like this? The only other platform with an intrinsic recoil arresting system that I can think offhand is the AK-107/108. And that isn't readily available at least here in the US! I can't think - are there other "recoil dampener" systems?

Compare it to other SMG platforms - H&K, AR SMG, etc. and I believe it is competitively priced when you get down to it. H&K has the UMP and they over-priced or have to be conversion built from their "retail" cousin the USC. The AR SMG isn't too bad but it is an AR. FN has the P90, it is nearly the same price retail but uses that sub-caliber bullet. The Steyr TMP is technically a machine pistol and is only 9mm AFAIK. There just aren't too many heavy caliber SMGs to be found!

It does have the "cool factor" but as a bullet launcher it doesn't do it much differently than a Glock with a MecTech conversion. Eliminating muzzle climb on a semi auto can be done quite effectively with a well-designed compensator/brake. I've never found the recoil on a .45 carbine to be excessive anyway, the Marlin is fairly light (compared to a Tommy!) but I never had any problem shooting it accurately in rapid fire. The KRISS may do it a little better, but is it $1300 better?

There is definitely a shortage of affordable "semi SMGs". I've been thinking about a scratch-built carbine in multiple calibers. Simple round tube receiver with a bolt similar to the Suomi. Use an HK G3 lower as the FCG, but with the ejector removed. Screw in fixed ejector like the Tommygun, different lengths for different calibers is just a twist in or out. Multiple bolts and bbls for caliber change. the magwell would be removeable for swapping magazine types. Haven't decided if it should "pin on" like a Swedish K or be kinda like the STEN MKII style where it would be on a slipover tube that would be locked in place by the bbl attachment. Maybe even go with the SUOMI end cap/pneumatic buffer. PPS43 mags for 7.62X25, Greasegun mags for the .45 and 10mm, SUOMI mags (drum?) in 9mm. Maybe someday I'll find the time to get on it.

The JahtiMatic was an earlier attempt at reducing muzzle climb in a subgun by redirecting the recoil forces. The bbl and bolt were mounted in the frame at angles to each other, they formed a shallow V over the magwell. Bolt travelled up and back when fired, the foregrip was the cocking handle. Stallone used one at the end of Cobra to dispatch the bad guys.
