Default New yellow form coming

I was talking with my local FFL holder the other day about the new (improved..lol) Federal form 4473 (yellow form) soon to be upon us. He'd mentioned that he will now be required to list the firearm being transfered differently than in the past. He told me that if the firearm is a receiver only that it will need to be denoted as such versus that of a complete firearm. What's up with that ??

I didn't know if it had anything to do with a new upcoming 'assault' weapons ban to be able to trace when a receiver was purchased for a new build.

Good answer cept for those milled receivers (e.g. M1A, milled AK, AR15, etc).

Just thought it was interesting that it will be tracked.

With the number of receiver sales in the last few years and the sometimes inconsistent way dealers list them on the yellow form I can see them wanting to make the distinction clear on the new forms. If a dealer buys a receiver and assembles a rifle on it, he owes excise tax where the bare receiver is not taxed at all. When Nodak sells a receiver to ABC gunshop but the dealer logs it out as a rifle that sure looks like tax is due. Giving them a specific box to check off or whatever to denote it as a receiver only is actually a good idea.

I think it is for excise tax, like kernelkrink said, and to check if some one with an 01 is manufacturing. the agent that interviewed us told us ther are watching for dealers who are manufacturing guns without an 07. this ties into the letter from august that makes a gunsmith who enhances the value of a firearm a manufacturer.

it also covers a home builder who makes a pistol from a virgin rifle receiver, there can be no doubt a pistol has been built from a receiver that once was a rifle.

The last 4473 I saw had a block for a receiver listing it as a ....pistol.....or rifle....or both. Naturally you mark ...both...that way you can make a pistol or rifle with it.

IF Nancy and Harry and Obama bin Biden get their way, we won't have to worry about what the yellow form says. We won't be allowed to buy any firearms.
Good peasants do as they're told and therefore don't need any means of resistance.
