Post1911 Polish P64 in 9x18 makarov..

Has anyone shot one of these pistols and if so, what are your impressions if this neat looking perfect candidate for a CCW pistol?

thanks, Jim

The P-64 appeared on the US surplus market in 2004 on the heels of the Makarov pistol. With the Bulgarian Makarovs having largely dried up, distributors often labeled these a "Polish Makarovs". In fact, they are nothing alike except that they are chambered in 9x18 Makarov. While more compact than the Makarov, they are not nearly as shootable as the Makarov largely due to its horrendously heavy double-action trigger pull. Still, they are worth considering as part of a 9x18 Makarov collection.

well, I like little guns that give a big boom and since I am 5'10" 202, I can handle the recoil.... they just look like well made easy to conceal pistols with some bite. I currently carry a Beretta Alley Cat in .32 for CCW and sometimes a S&W Airweight in .38, I just like to mix it up once in a while.... was looking for something cheap but well made... small and reliable.

I have one, Preacher has one, and a few other folks on the board do too. I really like mine.

Ammo on the way as well!

thanks guys... you see, today is my birthday, just turned 31 and I HAD to buy myself something!

I got rid of mine. I did not like the fact that its slide kept killing the skin on my knuckle. That is just me. It was also hard on my hand if I shot for too long as the recoil would get anoying to me. I must say it was my first pistol so i am probably just too picky. I really like the CZ52 i picked up to replace it.

This would be far from my first pistol but i have heard the recoil is stout! Thats ok, maybe the fireball and report will be enough to deter the bad guys, even if my aim is a little off.... which it normally isnt..

Ditto on what Rhino said. Very nice little pistol and I do trust mine for CCW. It was a little rough around the edges on a few things when I got it, but nothing that a few boxes of shells didn't take care of.

I swear the trigger pull must have been 57# when I first got it. Now, it's just right. All I did was shoot it. Safety was rough. Shooting fixed that also.

It does have quite a little jolt to it when shooting. Not bad for a clip or two, but it is not something that you'll want to take to the range and shoot all day. RLB let me shoot his Mak, Russian I believe, and there was quite a difference in kick. But the Polish is slimmer and more sleek, which I think makes it easier to hide for CCW.

I'd definately recommend one. You can't go wrong for the money.
