Default Re: Russian M44 Sight Problem

I picked up a Russian M44 at the funshow yesterday that seemed to be in good condition. The gun shoots 18" to the left @ 100 meters. The front sight is not centered, but pushed to the right with the right shoulder flush with the sight base. The gun has been counterbored about 1 1/4" deep. Did I get screwed?????????????? . I have a M1A that had this problem after getting rebarreled and I sent it back to upgrade to a NM barrel which fixed the problem. The counterbore now bothers me, but not as bad as a $1600.00 rifle that wouldn't shoot straight.

Counter bore is done to fix worn crown and improves accuracy over a worn crown.

Mine is counterbored and shoots pretty good.

This should not make you gun shoot left. Move the front sight to the left to compensate. Not sure it will correct this much, but worth a try. Some also say that these are sighted to shoot with the bayo extended. I can't imagine it would cause that much movement to the left.

Good luck!

Yeah try it with the Bayo extended, he's right they are sighted in this way. But I think you need to move the sight too, at least this way you can sight it in with the bayo closed.
