Hey folks, I am new to the forum and would like to ask some advice.
I would like to purchace a rifle to serve as my "go to" rifle in the event there is a situation where a civilian really needs a fighting rifle. I will list my criteria and would like to ask for opinions from those who know. An AK is my first choice as I am familar and fond of the platform.
1. ultra reliable.
2. good ak accuracy
3. cost should be no more than $1000
4. light weight
5. true carbine length which I would think to be no more than 36 inches
6. folding stock
7. I will purchace an ultimak and will put an aimpoint t-1 on it.
I am looking at an Arsenal Inc SLR 107 CR that has my curiosity. What do you guys think? What do you think would be a good choice based on my needs. Thanks
I have a RR Ar with red dot (1k)..and a romanian ak (500)..a llama 45 (289)and on the spur of the moment I bought a Hi-point 9mm carbine new(189) in a pawnshop..I like it more than I could ever imagine..light pistol grip rifle to shoot and fire ..can afford to shoot it..if I didnt have so much in the AR/AK ..I definately would be looking for more 9mm guns..I love the AR/AK but too exspensive to go shooting with for me..u might want to ck out the Beretta cx4 9mm tactical carbine if ur even considering a 9..its going to be my next gun for sure..If I could get my money back from my rockriver..lawd I would go 9 mil crazy
I have FOUR,(4) RRA, 9mm uppers on various lowers. The RRA mag adapter is not to beat. This is THE most reliable and accurate 9mm rifle I own.
We have fired everything through my first one from Wolf to hard primer IMI +P mil surplus. It runs with ALL of them. At 50 yards we put a full mag into a 1 foot diameter with just iron sights. Great for medium range combat.
These use UZI mags converted to work in the AR lower with the adapter. But, these just snap right into one of my UZI weapons and work just as well.
I will go with these in a ground assault type strike. UZIs for close combat. MAUSER sniper weapon for long distance.

Let's see: Based on my experience and training, here you go:
1. Lee Enfield SMLE
2. VZ58
3. Galil
4. M4
5. M4
6. M4 with mods for folder.
7. Learn how to use iron sights, they always work.
Reality check. What you really want is a BLASTER. Cause there ain't nothin' like havin a good blaster at your side kid....
Reality for real....Look at a nice Mini-14 or a Mini-30 if you really want 7.62x39. The AK is not that accurate, do not bother with a scope.
Now, don't blast me for telling the truth. AK rifles are NOT very accurate in a repeatable sense. The AK rifles that we are all building are generally more accurate than those that were mass-produced in Eastern Block factories. I have produced many fine examples.....But, the design was intended for high volume of fire and torso of angle accuracy at 100 meters. So says Mikhail.

Hmm I completly disagree with all this AS,s arent accurate. All of mine are better than 1.5" at 100 yards and most will do around 1" and I have one that is sub .5" (very custom 223) The rifles we build unless we are changing out the barrel will be no better than the originals. the biggest problem with AKs not shooting well, is the ammo is crap. use good ammo and they all will shoot decent if the barrel isnt shot out. the triggers are lousy but that is a easy fix. and adding better sights or as the original poster mentioned a red dot will help a ton. I have good scopes on several of my builds including a 12" barreld pistol all these will shoot 1" 100 yard groups with reloads and some trigger work with factoru barrels . I have two amd 65 that have done 3/4" groups off a rest. thses same guns with wolf ammo are lucy to be under 3". a $400 dollar wasr with GOOD Eotech, trigger work and good ammo will do very well out to 200 yards and a 223 version will be good for even further. Personaly I would go with the 223 as I think AK ammo will get really scarce in the future due to likely import bans. All my AK,s will out shoot my mini 30 and they are a ton more reliable. If I cant do under 1.5 at a 100 YDS it wont keep it.
I seriously doubt you will be seeing any cases were a civilian will need a fighting rifle so spending $1000 may be a little extreme unless you want it just have and enjoy shooting it.
while not any were near original here is what a stamped reciver AK is capiable of at 200 yards that 20 rounds BTW while adjusting the scope. first 5 shots were touching. if the scope had not been moved they all would have been inside that quarter. heres 5 in a dime at 100 YDS 223 again.
I dont have any pics of 7.62x39 groups handy but the last time out I coverd 4 rounds with a quarter with the pistol.
The constant billitlement of the AK not being accurate only give the anti gunners fuel for the there useless except for killing fire. IMOA. no centerfire gun is very accurate with $3 a box ammo spend $500 on the gun and the other $500 on ammo and learn to shoot it well

Gotta admit, I really like the Hi-Point 9mm carbine myself. Makes a nice truck gun for the field. Liked it enough that I bought the cheapo "laser kit" for it. Sure, it looks like something Charleton Heston grabbed off an ape but they work. Never know when I might come across a coyote, fox or turkey out here.
Sits nice wedged between the console and passenger seat for travel.
Still, any poly Saiga AK with all the "trimmings" is nice for a "grab and go" SHTF rifle. And don't forget that blade and sidearm!!!

Almost looks like it (iffin you squint your eyes).

I woul highly recommend a vz58 they are slightly smaller lighter and more accurate than an ak with damn near the reliability. They also seem alot more comfortable to me, and the folder is superior to any ak right side folder.
