Just a curiosity..... where would one go if they had the $$$ to purchase a lightning link or auto sear? I'm curious about the capital investment required. I've heard 5-6k for a LL and 7k or more for a DIAS!? Is this true? I would love to have the A-OK to have FA fun!

Harry, try subguns.com, they have a classifieds section as well as a very active NFA forum. If one isn't for sale there the forum guys will direct you to one. Also your local NFA dealer should be consulted as he will be the one transferring it to you.

BTW, re: FA fun one of the cheapest MGs out there right now is the MAC 11 series. Basic stamped sheetmetal subgun, but the accessories available for it are legion. There are also several companies making replica beltfed MGs like the MG42, 34, etc that use the MAC11 lower as the trigger group. The "upper receiver" is not an MG, so you can purchase multiple uppers and swap the registered M11 between them. They aren't cheap, but compared to a transferable original they are a bargain. Someone also makes a .22 conversion upper for cheaper shooting, takes 10/22 mags fed in from the side.

As far as using the DIAS as a safety sear, that would require the rifle have a full auto hammer and carrier installed. Not a good idea. Dunn, do you have a reference for the lawsuit where the DIAS maker won in court?

No, I don't.It just came up in conversation and when I checked the add like he said the pre '81' reference was gone. You could probably just call the phone number in the ad and ask him. He's pretty proud of his design and would most likely tell you.

On the m-11 I have to agree with the kernel.I've fired several of them and they are a ball to shoot. They are also one of the few transferable machine guns still affordable.

Default lightning links/DIAS

You can also try Gunbroker.com to find registered F/A stuff. Some of it is kinda pricy, but so far I haven't heard of anyone getting burned. Just remember, if you see either a lightning link or a dias for less than about 5000 smackers, it probably isn't legal. Good luck.
