Default Taurus .45Long/410

Anyone had experience with this one?
I thought that I also saw the same package from a diff manufacturer, in a two-shot configuration in the back of the latest NRA magazine?

I'm not a big fan of the mouse guns for carry, but have only fired a .25 once or twice.
Even that was scary, it hurt me just to fire it. the action tore my hand up!!!!!!!!!(big hands, tiny ass gun) you get the picture.

Hey Upgrayedd,

First on the market was the 'Thunder 5' which was a 5-shot revolver firing the .410 shotshell and .45 'Long' Colt.
Thunder 5 (which was also featured in a movie - Three Kings featuring Marky Mark):

The manufacturer went out of business, and rather recently a similar design was put out by Taurus called the 'Judge' (there are other model names I think) which also shoots .410/.45LC.

The Taurus Revolver was reviewed on [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. It was a pretty decent review, and for a hiking/field gun you might find it to be an incredibly beneficial tool...

However, it was generally determined that .410 shotshells in this pistol are a poor performer in Personal Defense against Humans/Attackers, but the .45 Colt defensive rounds performed beautifully with better penetration. Basically, this is a great gun for survival & hiking in that you can use .410 to shoot rattlesnakes, small game, even birds at relatively close ranges, and chambers loaded with .45 Colt can work good at Medium to Large game & Self Defense with the right loads.

If you're a handloader, you may also be able to load your own .410 shells with 'alternative' recipes at your own risk.

I would have throught a 410 to be a heavy hitter, and a better penetrator. Not a bad gun, not a good gun.

NICE!!!! A camper style pistol, with the bonus of offering a self defense load?
I like it!!!
And, as soon as I saw that pic(nice shot by the way) I knew that it was the pistol from Three Kings. I have ALWAYS wanted to know what that damn pistol was in the movie!
Now I know.

thanks

click this link to see a performance test of taurus's "the Judge"
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
he has quite a bit of good firearms testing, and a lot of interesting things.

Nice test Kurt,Ive been seeing these adds over the years and always wondered, does this mean a 45 long colt will fire from a 410 shotgun?

needs to be repeated CLEARLY:

the 410 shot shell is NOT a self-defense round.

but i still think having a few .45 colts behind them will
negate any problems with unloading the wrong chambers first.

my dad lives in AZ, i think the gun would be great for him.
most of the time it's just a rattlesnake, anyway.

The litle derringers are very lightweight and have a grip shape that is not hand-filling to say the least. I would expect the Taurus recoil to be a lot lighter and more easily handled due to the better grip and higher weight.

Other than a backcountry "dual use" snake dispatcher/small game getter and personal protection piece I really see no practical use for it. Even that is iffy as CCI makes excellent shotshell cartridges in most of the popular handgun calibers. A lightweight conventional revolver is gonna be much easier to handle than the Judge.

.45LC in a .410? Never tried it but as I understand it the actual chamber is a long .45LC on the dual cartridge/shotshell chambers, a .45LC would most likely not chamber fully in a .410 chamber. The big question, assuming it chambers fine, is bbl diameter and/or choke. Firing .410 out of a .45 bbl is no problem, just opens the pattern up some. OTOH, squeezing a .45 (.452) down to .410 full choke......
