Any motorcycle guys on here?
I have a guy who wants to trade a 94 vulcan 1500 for my Sks. The bike only has 20k miles. Might have to put a little cash in the deal but really I really never liked the gun and paid almost nothing for it. What do yall think? Maybe I should cash in on the gun paranoia before everyone wakes up?

Do a compression check on it, if it is within specs, do the deal. I would do it in a heart beat if I had the chance. In its time, the Vulcan was a screamer, it is still a pretty cool bike.

If it starts.Go for it.

If it's not crashed and runs OK, it sounds like a smokin' deal.
Unsolicited advice: check with your insurance company first. Some places won't insure anything that big, others slap on steep surcharges over 900cc. Also, depending on whether you're a rider already, some states require either a motorcycle endorsement on your car driver's license, or a separate motorcycle license. My endorsement got lost during renewal once, and even though I'd had it for 20+ years, the DMV insisted I retake the motorcycle test before they'd correct my license. So I got a new booklet, noted a few changes in the law since I got my original license, took a day off work, and... made about a 30% on the test. Utter failure. Because the test didn't have a single question about vehicles, right or way, motorcycles, or any of that stuff. It was all about DWI penalties, drugs, and some other BS. I'd noted the added material in the handbook, but stupidly didn't study it, since I didn't think it had anything to do with a motorcycle endorsement... |
I gave it up in 97 but pay for the motorcycle endorsement every four years.Who knows if I will take it up again?

I checked around on the web and it seems they are worth about 1500 in good shape. I might go look at it today. After reading the post by Big maybe I should do a background check on the guy first?

This sir, is the smartest advice that could be given. |
20k on any bike is a lot. was the person who put the miles on it a speed demon or did they respect life? because those mothers haul ass and may have been ridden hard and put away wet. compression check is ok but you should have a cylinder leak down test performed to see if the valve train, rings, head gaskets, ect are in good shape..

I ride a 1985 Honda V65 Magna & a 2004 Suzuki Hayabusa.
I also have an Russian SKS. I would trade ASAP. mickey[/I] |
Motorcycles are SO dangerous! DO NOT ride a big one like that unless you are skilled and are physically suited for it. Not just anyone will survive in a city where there are a lot of thoughless even predatory drivers against motorcycles.
