Default Becoming an FFL

Are there any individuals here that have gotten their FFL?

I have the paperwork from the ATF but all it asks is for my information and such. What should I expect once I send it in and is there anything I should do before hand to make this go as easy as possible?

Like what kind of safe will they demand? I know I'll need to keep good records, is there anything I should know ahead of time of about the record keeping, etc..?

I will do this out of my house after my day job and plan on setting up an online company since I sold my car parts website I really want to get back into online sales.

Didn't the baft change the regs to make it harder for guys to run a shop out of their house? Something about it being zoned business/comercial and have actual set store hours?

You are not allowed to run a gun store out of a residence any more. Only out of a commercial location.

ATF changed this a year or so ago.

You could get a C&R FFL but its no for selling, its only $30.00 or so. You can get some nice
discounts with it.

I really wanted to be able to do transfers because I have to drive at least 45 mins to the closest FFL whenever I buy a gun. I know if I wanted someone closer others would as well.
Plus like I said I use to sell car parts online until I sold the company and wanted to get into something new.

With the C&R FFL can I get discounts on newer guns as well or just the collectables since that's what it's made for? Also can I have newer guns shipped to myself if I buy a personal gun?

An FFL03, Curio and Relic, license does not cover the direct transfer of any firearm not designated as a Curio and Relic. The firearms NOT included are any manufactured earlier than 50 years ago and/or listed by the BATFE as C&R.

So, no, you cannot have newer guns shipped directly to you, they have to pass through the appropriate FFL01 licensee and transferred through the NICS (4473) process.

You CAN get discounts on firearms, parts and supplies from various vendors if you file a copy of your C&R with them, possibly including newer versions of firearms. Depends on the vendor.

Paddock lake sporting goods off of highway 50 in Paddock lake (262) 843-1625 will order whatever you want or do transfers for you. They shouldn't be much more than 30 minutes from you in Racine. The owner Randy, charged me $25 for the last few guns I ordered.

Really? That's how I have mine, and there hasn't been a problem. I've renewed it and even changed the address without an issue.

There is a stipulation that the conduct of business not violate any local ordinances or zoning restrictions (to include HOA rules!). It took me some time to circumvent those barriers with my HOA, but it's been smooth sailing ever since.

Contact some of the companies that specialize in helping you to obtain your FFL (they advertise in SGN) and they will give you a hand. It costs a little bit of money, but their packets include all sorts of bound books and information that is invaluable. And without someone guiding you through the process, you will likely find it difficult to obtain the license.

Post Saleen.

Interesting. I had a discussion with someone who was telling me the same thing you are mentioning about a home FFL business.
As MUSIBIKE mentioned the ATF kind of put the squash on that one.
Could you give some of the restrictions on a home FFL.
Like separate entrance from your home, zoned business in your A.O., same business hours required as a shop FFL, etc.
With my C&R the ATF is supposed to give 24 hour notice to inspect your records. With an FFL I believe no notice of inspection is required.
You are the second person I heard mention of a home FFL.
There must be more too it when your selling out of your home, as that is what made a lot of people give up there FFLs.
