Democrats threaten sheriffs over gun-ban testimony
Senate leadership hints at salary bribe for support.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., March 10, 2013 — In a move reminiscent of Chicago-style mob politics, Democratic State Senate leadership threatened sheriffs with holding up or stopping legislation that affects sheriffs’ pay unless they change their collective position on gun control. Senate leadership is President Sen. John Morse and Majority Leader Sen. Morgan Carroll.
Sheriff Terry Maketa of El Paso County went public with the information on Saturday morning on radio station KVOR’s Jeff Crank Show. He said that he learned of the threat via email from the Sheriff’s Association. Sheriff Maketa intends to press for an investigation for possible extortion and influencing elected officials, including possibly filing charges with the Colorado State Attorney General’s office.
About 30 of the state’s 62 elected sheriffs showed up in Denver on Monday to testify against the seven gun-ban bills being rushed through the state senate. The Colorado Sheriff’s association has released a five-page letter describing why they oppose the proposals.
Five of the seven bills passed the second reading in the senate on Friday. The second reading on the floor of the senate allows for debate and amendment by the senate as a whole. While there was a marathon session to consider all seven bills on Friday, Republican-proposed amendments were voted down.

Umm they call themselves Democrats... or "Progressives". Other than that I got nothing brother.
Man and I always thought bribing elected officials was illegal... I guess I was wrong. Obviously it's ok to do because Demwits are doing it.
If I were one of the Sherrifs I would call their bluff and make it very public what they are doing. Then charge them, then file civil suit against them.

Boy are they dumb,, hope there's some paperwork with signatures to go with this. They will be very sorry,,, LE's ,,, and vets,,,,don't like to be pushed around, and hopefully won't!! I sure am behind them,,, 110%.
Just got back from Co. Springs. The local GS owner (awesome shop BTW) said that Co. senate is "grooming" their gov for a possible candidacy in the next prez election. So they are basically rushing all this crap through ASAP so they can get it passed as the "model" instead of waiting for Ca. to do it. (I know, I know...)
So as far as his mindset, he believes all these will pass, the somnambulistic public will wake up and say "oh crap they banned my guns" and all the state gov will get voted out. THEN the laws will be repealed in a few years....
Total BS. The Co. Springs sherrif (El Paso Co.) said he won't enforce "unconstitutional laws".
If/When I move up there this summer I won't adhere to "unconstitutional laws".

Sheer insanity. Every day I think I have seen it all, then another thing like this happens and I realize that there is no depth that the Libtards won't sink.

Sounds like it's the "sheriff's association" that's trying to do the leaning here. Best as a quick web search returns, Colorado sheriffs are still elected by their constituents by county, and are still elected officials, just like the state legislature and Governor.
The association's web site is [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. They don't claim any official legal standing; looks like a feel-good group with fundraising, same as my local sheriff's association.
As I interpret things, they're stepping on the toes of various state and Federal laws about interfering with law enforcement and elected officials.
I have this feeling the organization might not be long for this world, at least in its existing incarnation.
