Gustav's Coming !!!
I just got home late last night from a business trip, and now got the call to "rally the troops". TX governor activated the National Guard, so they want me at the armory Sunday morning. So much for a holiday weekend with the wife. Only 1 1/2 more years and I'll have my "20", and can grow my hair long like 4thIDVet.
This brings back bad memories of Katrina and the battle of New Orleans that followed.
PS. Finally got pinned with my CIB (Combat Infantry Badge) last weekend. It was a big honor, and a most sought after badge. Things in Iraq are going so well that we only got into 1 firefight the whole time we were there.

Congrats..
This is a big storm, and it seems to be heading right for the oil industry along the Louisiana coast.
Expect gas to skyrocket again.
Beyond that, if I lived anywhere near the coast down there (which I wouldn't anyway), I'd be getting the hell out of dodge ASAP.

I agree, Gustav SUCKS. First and most important for the people who have to leave their homes and run again. But I had a friggin SWEET deployment to miami this week, FU-KING MIAMI! Stay a week and do some LE, but as of about 20 minutes ago, we are now redirected, and flying to somewhere around Texas I think with a canceled deployment to FL. DAMNIT! Not trying to sound insensitive, because my problem is NOTHING like what some people are having now. But DAMNIT!

Those of us who are watching this beast carefully, wondering if a) we'll have to evacuate if it comes a little further west, and b) if we do, will we have a house to return to - well, you might understand if I am a bit unsympathetic to your rescheduled deployment.
If it comes close as a lower-category hurricane, I'll ride it out. I'm set for food, water, and plenty of persuasion to make sure my supplies stay mine. Son #2 and I were out this evening practicing the art of shall we say "helping people make the right decisions from a distance"...

Yeah, it looks like it will be ugly for those poor folks in New Orleans and surrounding areas. I'm glad they got their evac preparations squared away better this time. 1 million people who needed help leaving are already out.
It might get ugly over here, one can't really say until the last few hours. I'm staying. I usually do. My house inside the loop in Houston is my family's fallback position from their places nearer the coast. I'm in a pretty fair position for wind and if it floods worse than Allison we'll all sit on the roof with a tarp over us, eat canned tuna, drink bottled water, sing "Six Feet High And Risin'", and rescue pets and swimmers as they go by. And if anyone decides to get frosty, the Norinco and the Glock will fix that.
At times like these I always think about that Ron White bit where he tries to tell the audience about hurricanes. "It's not THAT the wind is blowing. It's WHAT the wind is blowing." LOL
You NG boys and Coasties don't forget to bring extra socks. Remember, nothing feels as good as dry feet in wet boots, even if they only last a few minutes.
Life on the Gulf Coast, baby...yeeha.

Rikoshay.
Dag nab it I just caught this one. Could not be prouder of you Bro. People do not understand the importance of the C.I.B. or any medals won in a combat environment. Proud of you young feller.
Regarding this storm. I live down here in hurricane alley with other members of this site. If someone is so stupid as to NOT heed the warnings. Screw EM.
New Orleans YOU are in a friggen soup bowl. GET OUT.
Now our National Guard and Coast Guard has to go in and rescue the friggen idiots who don't want to evacuate. Frig them. Let them drown.
Friggen Idiots.
P.S. For you and the other Vets I will get a haircut.

Well we are going to New Orleans again it sounds like. All our crap got flown over today. NKLUKSDA, Im am very sorry about your situation, as I said. But I think you missed that part to find a negative in my comment. Truthfully, I would much rather be doing SAR in New orleans than LE in Miami anyday. HOPEFULLY, it wont come to that. My comments were more ..."messing around" than anything else. Anyway, at least things are getting done well in advance this time, unlike last time it was all last minute. There are still people liveing in FEMA trailers from the last time this happened.
