Am a few yrs older than you. Had a stent put in last Dec thru xmas. Was off work for 10 days, only because of my type of work. Generally they let you go back in a week.
Pretty simple procedure really, same as angioplasty. Yep am on the Simvastatin thing here too along with asprin.
My symptom was:
When I carried anything or picked up anything and walked with it, I would feel like I had just ran a few sprints up and down the Bball court. It was then mandatory that I at least sit down, if not lie down for a minute or two.
At the same time I had a dull pain in the center (and sometimes left of center) of my chest. Anyway after a couple minutes I felt okay and was able to carry-on for a little while longer.
My dad used to tell me that he was short of breath but I never knew what he was trying to explain to me.
Now I know, again, (for me) I felt like I had ran some sprints.
Note: when you get to the age of 50 you should have a cath done every 5 years or have a routine stress test done especially if you have heart disease in the family.
Also you otta have an up-the-butt scope thingy done too. The procedure is a piece o-cake. Its the day/night before that really sucks. Ya gotta drink some naaaaasty crap! Then soon after, you get to hang close to the pot until you leave for your appointment next am.
What I really recommend is...... stop having Birthdays
Best of luck to youins.

I had partial blockage and they did a stent. Then they sent me home with HBP, Lipitor, cholesteral and anxiety meds. I'm being given a second chance. Please, please, please, if you feel ANY discomfort in your chest-GO! The sooner the better, they're better than ever to find and fix you. I feel better than I have in years. It was the best thing I ever did. We want everyone to be here for a good long time. Btw, my Wife and I went and signed up for a Tai Chi class. We bought a Jack LaLanne juicer and we're going heart healthy from now on. We hope y'all do to.

Welcome to The Survivor's Club, Gene!
Since 1998 I've had 4 heart attacks, three angioplastys and am currently recovering from a triple bypass I had three months ago.
Also just had a Prostate Biopsy on Wednesday.
The damned Prostate Biopsy hurt worst of all.
Gotta wait till next week to find out if I have Prostate Cancer or not.
Although it's not all bad news, I've lost 50 lbs since last Sept. and all my numbers are in normal range for a 51 YO male.

Hang in there Mike U.
Our experience was that each Open Heart Bypass surgery lasted about 10 years.
My dad had three OH surgerys, one Pace maker, and a valve replacement installed at the end of thirty year reign. Thats not to mention a couple angioplastys along the way.
He went through hell, as well as the family but it was worth it. We got to enjoy and love him for an extra 30 yrs. His first bypass was done in 1971 at the age of 47, we had to ship him out of state to have this very new procedure done back then....
..... anyway, I've probably said more than I should have so back on topic.
Hang in there dude, you have a lot more good times ahead of you if you follow Docs orders!
Have a great weekend and best of luck to you and yours !

I'd been having dull pains for about 3 months, but just worked thru them ( gung-go ex Jar Head) and they'd come and go, but then I started getting sharp pains that'd jerk me back. The other day they didn't go away, so I went to the ER.

I go to the V.A. all the time for checkups. My cholesterol was through the roof. Something like 380.
Now I am on Simvastatin tabs which has brought my fat ridden arteries down to like 140 something.
Still can't drive by Mickey Ds without getting a fish sandwich. But I do NOT supersize it. Stay health bud. Good luck.

I quit smoking 12 yrs ago, when my Dad died of lung cancer (and my Grandpa too). I quit drinking yesterday. Thanks.

OTOH, my brother swears by the Red Yeast Rice but I have heard negative things about it as well.

I'd like to hear what those negative things are, before i go out and buy some.
Thanks
