Default HooRay! Aussie troops leaving Iraq

Folks

Australian combat troops will depart Iraq this week , ending our direct involvement in Iraq after 5 years. We will leave a 100 man and woman security detachment to secure our embassy and accomodation in the capital.

Despite the rash of statements that we are breaking ANZUS and our muslim population is forcing us to withdraw i assure you all this is not true.

We have a 10 year commitment to Afghanistan and and a open ended one on the WOT, But Iraq, i'm just glad our folks are out of there.

The rash of anti aussie statements from the white house is ok, these are the guys who told everyone WMD WMD!!!! a few years ago, no one has beleived the BS since.. (politics)

Support your troops , some are my mates, i wish them all safe home soon too.

They shoulda listened to stormin Norman back when...

cheers folks

jack

I'm happy for your countrymen that are serving over there. I appreciate the sacrifices they've made. I'm afraid the Americans will be there for several more years though.

And I am also happy for your servicemen and women who may now return home.

But I have to reply to the "WMD" comment.

17 different infractions, including WMD, were put forth to the U.N. General Assembly by Mr. Colin Powell. The "WMD" cry did not come from the WhiteHouse or Mr. Bush, it was capitalized on by a press unfavorable to the Bush Administration. Let us not forget the other 16 infractions.

Nor the approximately 100,000 Kurds who died after we reneged on our promises the first time Iraq was invaded.

And don't forget related statistics like how many dead Iraqis (?), americans (?) with no reneging necessary.

A witness who lies on the stand, all other testimony is held highly suspect. poor Colin.

And 'anti-administration press' (?) - yellow cake, enrichment, mobile labs, 30 minutes to doomsday, hussain/bin laden/iraq ... NOT.

yeah, right ... next witness PLEASE.

tell your mates, WELCOME HOME! god's speed to us all.

At least your government has the sense to pull out of there before the country goes broke.

Look at us funny heads.

Musibike here some figures for you

the cost of a digger ( soldier) in the feild in afghanistan is $410 AUD a day plus comsumables (ammo and support ammo mortars artillery etc) plus his wages.

In Iraq its $2300 USD a day because there we must pay a contractor for everything even when we supply it ourselves, because of contracts.

The Contractor (KBR) was charging Australia $19 a gallon for water while we had our own desalination plant that supplied all the troops in the green zone, but the contract stated we could not by pass these payments. Then KBR sued our folks for their loss of profits when we started giving water away to your troops.

the catering company from australia that supplied all our diggers meals was sued 80 + times by KBR and Haliburton until they had to cease trading then started charging $ 39 per feild meal ( ration pack) we ate even when we supply our own ( rations mark 4 aust.) we did not eat at the main camp but we have been billed for 167,000 meals served in a 3 week period

we cant afford to stay any longer, the poles have stated this in public and the Fijians when home months ago. to quote the Fijian commander "I am very happy to serve with the US forces but the US companies here are the biggest criminals i have ever heard of, they put the Mafia to shame".

we can now afford to feild 700 more in afghanistan and a extra 100 in the solomons and a extra battalion in Timor where they are needed.

KBR and Haliburton have made 1.1 trillion profit since the start of the iraq war,

thats 1/3 rd of your cost for the war...
thats a lot of dividends for shareholders.. who are they again??

Musibike your white house( people in there) holds 29% of all shares in these companies.. wheres the drive to leave?? they are all making money while the US is IN Iraq

I wish all your blokes and girlies serving come home safe and the profiteers get to lugg a rifle in a war zone for a while so they know how they got their profits.

but thats a dream that wont come true

George W had a exit strategy.. pity it was for Viet Nam..
