I dunno...Chavez seems to care more about poor Americans than Bush & Cheney:

With heating oil prices approaching $10 a gallon in rural Alaska and reports of neighbors stealing fuel from neighbors to warm their homes, a Venezuela-owned oil company plans to supply free fuel to villages again this winter.

That's what a Citgo executive who oversees the company's free heating oil program told the Alaska Inter-Tribal Council earlier this month, said council director Steve Osborne.

Citgo has provided roughly 15,000 Alaska village households 100 gallons of heating oil each for the past two winters. If the company donates the same amount this year, some families will save as much as $1,000 on their fuel bills. It's part of a program providing assistance to low-income communities in 23 states.

A monkey in a space suit still isnt an astronaut.
This guy is not being NICE, he is being deceptive while trying to seem NICE.
He just wants to make a buck and undermine American sovereignty....he has been outspoken in his disdain for US policies and is now making every attempt to undercut our power.

We should never fear a country, no matter how tyrannical or crazy their leader is, that has nuclear power capability. In fact, WE should be developing nuclear power, along with helping struggling nations with it!

Currently, our nuclear plants are outdated, running 60's technology and equipment. With our current technologies, we could build nuclear powerplants that are virtually indestructible. Chernobyl was a shitty powerplant, even by 1960's standards, and it was only a matter of time before something failed and the plant went up. The disaster could've been much less severe, had the Soviet government (which was so far up its own ass at the time) handled it appropriately.

Sure, meltdowns are possible... However, with computer-aided technologies these days, if one part fails, the computer is able to determine this and shut down certain components (if not the whole plant) and report the error! Fuck, our VEHICLES these days are more complex than half the nuclear plants in America!!!

Plus, the construction of more nuclear powerplants means more jobs, less greenhouse gas emissions, FAR lower energy prices and costs, etc. etc. etc... The hippies should be all FOR new nuclear power, but they are afraid of terrorists and Chernobyl, and rightfully so... With their 'no guns' policy, there'd be no stopping a terrorist attack on a new powerplant, and thusly a possibility of another Chernobyl-like incident... We need a compromise, hippies... We build new powerplants and arm security guards with the best and baddest, and you get to dance in your communes and worship your cleaner dirt.

There is always a possibility of a terrorist attack... No amount of security can stop that. It hadn't stopped Timothy McVeigh, it hadn't stopped the hijackers on 9/11, it didn't stop Ted Kaczynski, or any other Freakydeaky McCrazypants in the past... However, if we do our best by locking down the area around a nuclear plant, we can greatly reduce the chance that an attack is successful. Also, with current technologies, if a terrorist were to bomb one part of a nuclear plant, the software would easily recognize key components as 'not responding,' and lock the reactors down, thus preventing a massive spill of radioactivity into the environment.

The facts of nuclear power are quite clear. For one, it's cleaner, as it isn't the burning of fossil fuels like a coal/petroleum plant. Secondly, it can be placed anywhere, especially useful for states and communities who don't have a good coal bed to mine OR running rivers to dam, thus keeping the wildlife out of harm's way. And thirdly, a coal plant failing would be MUCH more devastating to the environment than a nuclear reactor failing, as current technologies can prevent a massive radiation spill in about 99.9% of all scenarios.

What about disposal? Well, hopefully the hippies don't get in our way with this, because we've got a perfect place. We call it "YUCK! A Mountain!!" Err... Yucca Mountain, in New Mexico or Arizona, not sure where at the moment. This mountain is currently being excavated and built into a very stable, very secure enclave specifically designed to store spent nuclear fuel rods. It is in the middle of the desert, where there is very little rainfall which may compromise the casings that spent nuclear fuel is stored in (otherwise known as 'casks'), and the mountain is almost entirely one giant chunk of granite, guaranteeing that a leaking cask wouldn't contaminate SHIT. The granite would successfully contain 95% of all radioactive isotopes...

What about transport? Well have I got youtube links for you!!!

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Crash test for spent nuclear fuel cask:

1. Semi, 60mph
2. Semi, 84mph
3. Semi, hit by diesel locomotive, 81mph
4. Railcar: 81mph
5. Same railcar and cask, subjected to jet fuel fire.
- After 90min:
--Outer temp: Over 1400f
--Inner temp: Under 300f
**Cask was never compromised**

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Crash test in Britain, Operation "Smash-Hit"
-Train impact at over 100mph.
**Cask was not compromised.**

Nuclear energy is safe, and it can only get safer!! We should be helping smaller nations develop nuclear power, as it's cheaper, cleaner, and much safer. Instead, hippies cry and wet themselves over the thought of a nuclear accident.

Not to mention the new pebble bed reactors that can't go critical and the fuel can be recycled.

100,000 AKs! Or, AK74's?

I guess they will get some Russian ammo too?

At least we get those if they come here to raid us.

Why, exactly do the people who said so in this thread Hate Chavez ? Because he hates the same Gov you do ? Or because your gov told you to hate him ? I have searched, and can't find Any reason to hate, or even dislike the fellow... he's Really helped his country, and is not giving them the means to defend themselves...Gives away oil to help people... I just don't get it.

I work with a woman who's originally from Venezuela and has much family still living there. She says Chavez is ruining the country. The middle class, which was once prosperous and sizeable, is being reduced to the same poverty as the poor - in that respect, you can argue that Chavez is successful in bringing equality, if success means everyone is equally poor. According to my friend, he is not investing in infrastructure, with the result that the services are deteriorating.

Forget what my government says; they don't think for me. I don't trust anyone who spreads poverty, confiscates wealth into a redistributionist socialist/marxist scheme, spends like crazy on military without rational justification, bends the laws to rig elections, prevent criticism, and extend his own reign, and pals around with rulers / leaders who enslave their own people into poverty and misery.
