And on the Lighter Side

The ORIGINAL BATMOBILE was auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson for the sum of $4,200,000. Plus fees. Mr. Barris has owned it this whole time.

I always thought the George Barris bat mobile was a cool classic. I had no idea he owned it all these years. Thanks for sharing the info.

What's truly amazing is how little he did to it to make it the Batmobile! Other than the custom paint, some bat motifs and the rear deck exhaust stacks and such, the basic car was already there in the Ford Futura concept car! Wonder if the new owner is gonna park it on display, or run through the local drive in with it?

That's interesting, I didn't know he owned it either

In 1966, while working on the Batman television series, Los Angeles car customizer George Barris revealed he bought the Futura from Ford for $1.

This was far and away Barrett-Jackson's best main event auction, with a very eclectic mix of cars. It wasn't the usual Corvette and '69 Camaro show that it had gotten to be. I think they did a fantastic job picking some truly excellent iron to auction, with the Batmobile being the centerpiece. Skeptics said it would only bring around $200,000. Boy were they wrong!!!!!!!!I think they set a record of $1,000,000+ cars for a B-J event, as well.

It just goes to show, you do a great job and hold onto the work of art long enough, and a $1 car is worth $4.2MM.

Nice.

I heard he is gonna park it inside his house.
