The NRA and every other pro-gun org needs to go after the city hard on this. No expense can be spared. If we beat this now it will send a clear message to others. If we let them put this in that too will send a message, but the wrong one.

Here, Here!!!! This is very true!! Look how many cities across America were adopting the (failed) very same gun policies as DC before the SCOTUS defeated them?

Anti gunners are the majority, and will not stop untill they render the populous of this nation defenseless. Join the NRA, RTKBA, GOA or any of them and send a message to congress and DC. Right now, I cant think of a better way to spend $25.00

DC government was upset over the laywers costs over the first court case. The NRA needs to hit them with a couple more lawsuits and they will fold like a lawn chair. Let them get away with this now and they will test the people even further with more restrictions. Gotta nip this in the bud.

George the commie homo Soros will probably put up the bucks for the lawsuit. His screen name could be like "Sleeps with Sheep" Or "Beds with Men."
The safety course to obtain an initial CCW I am in agreement with. A renewal every 3yrs on Re Registering. No. Unless your a felon it is everyone's rite to have a weapon.
Registration. Nope.

Is a civics course required to obtain voter registration? Are poll taxes legal?

Is a writing or speaking course required to exercise the First Amendment right? Do you have to pay someone a fee to speak or write?

Why then need there be a mandatory safety course to exercise the Second Amendment right?

I'm a huge proponent of firearm safety, but there should be no obstacle or cost to a law-abiding citizen in obtaining a CCW permit. In fact, while CCW permitting is a step in the right direction, in my opinion a law-abiding citizen should not be required to hold even that permit to carry a concealed firearm.

Yes. In theory I agree with you S.J.
But on the other hand take someone like my 63yr. old sister. She like millions of other Americans are now buying weapons.
I think????? in Connecticut you have to obtain, not sure, a permit and then purchase a weapon.
The thought of putting a pistol or weapon in my sisters hands without some type of training would scare me. She, like I am sure others, with the recent surge in weapons purchases, does not even know which end of the weapon the bullet comes out.
No I am not a spy for the Brady Bunch . I just think the safety course is a good idea.

As long as our nation and the states ALLOW under 16 year olds to obtain a drivers license and operate a motor vehicle, i DO NOT believe that MANDATORY firearms safety courses should be an issue.
A more clear annd present danger in the District of columbia is actually being HIT by a CAR whilst crossing the street....no shit. It has been getting worse over the past year and DC has taken SERIOUS steps to curb the many pedestrian hit-n-runs that have occurred.
Dont get me wrong, gun safety is PARAMOUNT, but so is common sense when owning a gun.
Their priorities are SO far out of whack...

It's a good idea to learn how to spell before you write as well. We don't however mandate that people take grammar or writing courses before entering into online discourse. Before you say that weapons are different, think about how much violence has occurred due to miscommunication both written and oral.

I think, that like all our "rights", this one should be absolute and without restriction. That does not abdicate personal responsibility for your actions. Your sister, like most other humans with a pulse, should understand that there are implicit risks and responsibilities associated with firearm ownership. This is no different than driving a car, operating a lawnmower, or smoking a cigarette.

You assume that not only is your sister (after surviving 63 years) incompetent but unable to understand that she lacks the competence to effectively employ this firearm! You don't worry about her sticking her hand in a blender, do you?

I applaud the efforts of people to encourage safe and responsible firearms handling, but to mandate it will only serve to make it a mockery like drivers education or traffic school.
