Post SHE IS PREGNANT

Been waiting 10 years. Fed her. Gave her water.
No I am not the Father but he must have split. The old poke and run.
10 long years I waited. Then then God I can hardly type, my girlfriend came in the house and made the announcement.
She is pregnant. The joy overwhelmed me.
All I had was an old stale cigar too smoke. Plus cold beer of course.
Chopped her in 1/2 in the winter, kept her warm. Fed and watered her.
Well here she is. Pregnant as hell.

Talking Yes Bananas Yes..

Yes bananas.
Do not know what kind they are for real. But they do not taste like regular ones. They grow wild all over the swamps down here.
Hearts of palms picture of plant. These we call swamp cabbage. God are they good cooked fresh.
When you go to the store and see the cans of "Hearts of palm" this is the palm tree they come from.
Tons of stuff to eat down here in the swamps.
Then again there are lots of stuff that will eat you.
With the economy in the dumps, poaching is going rampant. People are starting to go back to the swamps and woods obtaining food.
Gator, deer, wild hog, snake, wild turkey all over the damn place.
The Fish and Game guys have there hands full trying to stop the poaching.
Knowing the correct plants to eat. One would not have to go to the store.
Then again eat the wrong plant and you will be planted. 6ft. Under.
The guys that grew up here are showing me stuff to eat. I let them taste it first.

God I am so proud.

Funny, Funny

I have never seen a banana growing on a tree. I can tell an ash, from an oak from a hickory, from a maple just by the bark though. Those are the only tree's we have around here besides about 5 different kinds of pine.

they are plantains. really good fried, and for making bread, etc.

we get 400 to 500 pounds here at my house in texas every year. the neighbors got tired of them so now we take them to the food pantry. they will take all we have.

we are trying to recover from the IKE hurricane and there is only a few pounds this year.

slice them length way and fry them in hot peanut oil. they are very good.

we also get around 100 to 150 pounds of small sugar figs every year off of 4 trees. we give most of them away. except for what the birds and racoons eat.

Neither have I till I moved to this A.O..
I really should have put this in the survivalist forum.
For real. These good old boys down here can go in the swamp and make a dang salad.
Roots, berries etc. Like live off the swamp. No kidding.
I think the swamp cabbage is off the "Sabal Palm" I think it is the state tree and protected.
The good old boys down here, when we are have a BBQ, showed me how to cut up the palm.
These guys made quick work of it. Take a machete and chop down on the palms. Then they cut the core of the bark you see to get at the heart. People pay good money for the heart of the tree. Excellent cooked fresh.
Palm Sunday. See the Palms. Before palm Sunday guys collect the palms and make a fortune selling them for Palm Sunday.
You have to get a permit from the Forest Service.
Big money and good living down here in the swamps.
Next post will be on making Moonshine.
