I spent the summer of 1965 on Oahu with my scout troop & got to see her pull into pearl harbor. Also we laid a wreath on the almost new Arizona memorial. Pretty emotional stuff.
Still had bullet holes in the mess hall walls at Wheeler field where we camped out & bomb craters alongside runways. I would never buy a Jap car.

For scrap! I know the metal is valuable. But doesn't this thing have some place in history?

Man that is sad. I hate when any old ship, base, aircraft, etc.... are deactivated. I spent many years working on and superising others on Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force C-9 transport planes. Hell the two Marine birds I had flown on when I was young and in the Corps. Spent 2 years in charge of the Presidential Fleet of C-9C's. Got to go to Andrews AFB quite often to go through the squadron recieving inspection with them. I loved those planes. Then they slowly started deactivating them. Not sure how many are left flying right now, but it's probably only a few, if any. I imagine they're all out at Davis-Monthan AFB in Arizona. It's just sad to see stuff go. I wonder how many sailors have served aboard the Enterprise??
