That would have been my first choice also if I was responding to that call, I think the K-9 officer wasn't quite on the ball fast enough on that one too. Things probibly could have been handled better in hind-sight, but sometimes things happen so fast, it's hard to judge unless your in there position. I know in Nam I was put in some circumstances that could have been handled better too, but when the shit hits the fan, all bets are off!! I know many here have been in combat and know what I'm talking about. Shit can go south in a hurry for no apparent reason!! And ya just clean up the mess's after the smoke clears and hope you did the right thing. It's the "could have, should have, would have", thing comming into play. The dog may have been able to defuse the situation but I'm sure the whole story will never be known on this one. The taser sure didn't seem to have any effect on him and perhaps the dog may or may not have helped eaither, hard to know. Just sad that someone had to die, this is never a good thing, all the way around.
