nah,just russia flexing their proverbial muscles as mCQ1 stated earlier. NATO will threaten and threaten but ultimately, we will do nothing and russia never really plans or intends to pull out anytime soon,imo. theydo what they want-always have always will.
they have been threatening us for YEARS over this proposed missile shield in europe..now that it has come to fruition, this is their way of giving us the finger.

they feel threatened bythe US presence in their backyard and are simply answering.

this shouldnt be a big surprise. i want to say that just a year or two ago(give or take a year) therewas a headline in the paper where Russia threatened the us with severe military action if we proceded with our missile shield.
i paid no attention to it at the time as that was the first i had heard of it. i also thing that we were soliciting germany or thereabouts as the site for the first part of the missile shield?
anyhow, just read between the lines, we insulted them by putting this thing up in poland and stepping on their turf. this is their proportional indirect response.
i imagine that any negotiated russian retreat will end with condi rice pulling us out of poland for a few years....

true,buit i think that this ismore of the priciple of the whole thing.
example-kin jong il needs foodand resources forhis starviing country but is too proud to ask for help frojm us. so he begins a menacingand full scale nuclear weapons enrichment program and shoves it in our face,knowing that we will negotiate.
we do and he gets all that he wants...he'll just build the centrifuges more secretly next time. win for n korea on both fronts.

russia, imo wants something and this is their way of threatening it out of us....just my opinion

About all we can do is allow every country in the region into NATO that wants to and draw the line. Then its back to MAD. When you think about it thats all our presence in Germany was, a trip-wire and a speed bump. Nukes were always the deterrent...still are.

I don't think anybody thinks they are. Russia kicked their ass, now they need to go home. Georgia is no threat to Russia.
