OIL.

British Petroleum spent a few hundred million dollars to build a pipeline through GEORGIA to transport Azerbajani oil to the Black Sea for Western European markets. A pipeline that the Russians did not control. It is a major oil supply line for the West.

I agree, this is a rather 1 sided affair, wouldnt you say. No matter what Georgia did, this seems a little disproportional...

yup, now washington is rubbing that in their face

as for disproportional (russia's response) the very same can be said of someone blowing away some punk that had a pocket knife or ballbat that wanted your wallet

once someone or some country threatens or uses force, what ever happens to them after that, well it's their fault

You have to remember that it is the RUSSIANS that claim the Georgians attacked first.

According to the Georgians, they attacked Russians inside south ossetia, which is a mere province of Georgia with no army or militia. Just Russian "volunteers". It took the Russians months to get their military into postition to attack Georgia. The Caucasus mountains are a huge obstacle to an army. This is naked Russian aggression. We will see it again very soon in the Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia and then at the start of WWIII, POLAND.
