That's what I was saying about electronic locks on safes in a past post here. The guy that went with me to help me get mine was able to open every single safe in the line in less than10 seconds each,,, and every single brand and in 3 different stores. But couldn't open a single combo lock one. I got a combo one,, which I wanted anyways.
Those little safes are worthless any ways IMO. Not only did I get a combo lock safe, got a big honking one too,,,,, weighs in at I think it was 6-700 lbs empty??
I bolted it into a corner with the side that opens towards the wall, and 6, 1/2" lags into the floor joists, and 6 more on each of the 2 sides into the wall studs. They'll have to work hard for my stuff mister!!! Plus they will have to get past the 3 chow/shepards, alarm and my red neck neibors first. Even then I'll have them on vidio, got 3 miniture infared mini cams hidden inside the walls and 2 outside. Along with motion dectors that that cover my whole property, which activates all systems and 6 150 halogen spot lights that flood the whole damn yard like it was High Noon, all with battery back up. And that's just for when I'm gone,,,,, and someones almost always here. If I am here,,,, then they'll have to contend with all that and me too!,,,, not sure, but I think I'm OK. Of course every one bitches when they can't see to drive in or out of the yard at night, but what to hay!!
Hummmm, now I think about it,,maybe some razor wire and claymores ,, some foo-gas would be a nice touch too

check out the you-tube videos and gun safes,
the cheap ones are useless apparently even for 3 yr olds, my sister got a small sentry safe with a combo dial, i told her it was not going to stop a pro she said it would stop some kid but not her loser son, he would sell her organs
so for the one hundredth time avoid the cheap safes sold in the warehouse stores except for the Liberty safes sold by one of the warehouse stores

Even with a combo lock, A real pro is going to drill it. If A locksmith can do it a pro crook can too. Now most junkies have no clue. But these swell new cordless drills must be great for pro thieves!

Absolutely - there are some very interesting "white hat" hackers that are showing the vulnerabilities of MOST of those small gun safes for sale. Usually posted on Youtube. Do some research so you know what you are getting!

This is a crazy paradigm because I have an expensive safe and I look like a three year old trying to get into it. How does that work?

I've had mine a few years & I still have to hold the instructions in one hand & do the dial with the other. Even then I forget how many times I just turned the dial ! Was that left three times then right four? No it was right four times then left three then right two! No....No..... Spin it right four times before starting, then left three ..right two & back till it clicks in place.. BINGO! I'm leaving the damn thing open!!

Mine wasen't the most spendy ones but I got one with a good fire rateing and mid range thickness steel and an upgraded type lock mech. While I had it apart to install I added a plate in front of the lock assy and welded some carbide, triangle shaped "rod?" Not a clue what it was for??? found it in a scrap pile where I used to work, so I snaged it. Had to cut it with a torch, 4 cuts done extra gentle on a cut off wheel and it ate the whole blade, 14"er too!!! Tough shit!!!! Welded that to a 8x10 1/2" stainless plate,, you look at it from the edge,, it looks like tank traps!!!! It had a nice lip on the inside edge of the door to weld to whiout affecting the outside finish so added some extra gussets on the inside of the door too and extra x braces. That should make the door real stiff and my "tank trap"will make a bit walk and snap off, even the best of um. Don't think they'll get through that to easy.
I added anouther layer of cement board/fire board everywhere,,,, what ever it's called then got some of the boiler seam morter goop and filled in all the corner blanks where it didn't come quite together well, put the carpet pannels back on and done. There was at least 1" extra space originally between the panels so the panels went right back the same place and has to be way more fire proof than it was before,, it already had a 90 minite fire rating so that's pretty good to start. Added some 1/4 " thick 8x8 plates where the lags went through too. I'm sure it's pretty secure and is as good as I could afford, and should be fine for home use. I just made up for some of it's weaknesses by adding some sweat equity to make it more comprable to higher priced ones that I couldn't afford. Plus I had most the material and plenty of time to spare. Should work OK.
