From a Military perspective. Again great to have to much ammo. But..
Keep in mind, those guys are not just carrying ammo.. Food, water, medical supplies, shelter possibly, ammo for the squad auto weapon, etc..
Weight adds up fast... Damn.. I got to pick up one of those new M-4? the youngguns are carrying now. My God their heavy..
Guess it would depend on if your stationary or on the move..

the reason why ya need so many mags isn't as much a tactical concern but more of a logistics one--

if the big "O" steals this one, passes a ban the USA itself is gonna change-- you might not ever have another chance for re-supply of ammo or mags.

the ones you got are going to have to do for a couple decades if we all live that long.

if things get really bad you might have to split the collections up, then each firearm will have its own small supply of mags and ammo--

you might not need more than six mags at any one time --but it sure would be nice to have a few spares scattered around the AO--

PS the m4 is very light-- till you stick flashlights, lasers, optics, rails, bi-pods-tripods, battery packs --LOL--

that optional beer cooler takes a lot of D-cells! LOL!

I guess. It was the hurricane troops here some years back.. They cleared the weapon and let me check it out. Damn I would love to have one of them..
Troop would not sell, but he thought about it.
Guess I am just getting old, the M-16 felt like a feather compared to that..

Rumor has it Stoner picked up one of the newer M16 variants with the rails and tons of crap on it and commented he spent a lot of time and effort to creat a 5-6 pound rifle and now the thing weighs more than the M14 it replaced! Mag and ammo supply are related. Ya load up all your mags with all your ammo, whichever one ya run out of first ya buy more of. Repeat as needed.

j427x does that cooler attached by a picitiney or weaver rail???

By the looks of some of this stupid tac-cool shit that's available , it wouldn't be to hard to mount one!! My brother and my nephew is into some of that shit and most is just the most impractical, cheap ,,, crap I've ever seen. What to Hell does anyone need 6 rails that run the complete length of the gun for?????? Other than being able to mount a set of dolly wheels to drag it around with,,,after ya mount all the other needless shit,,,, Good Lord, gimmie a break!!!

I always ask them,,,,,"Starting your own railroad??" He's got an AR that looks like you could mount the complete rolling stock of all the remaining rail road company's in the world,,,,combined,, on it!!! Frigging thing is >18 lbs already,,,,,,, And he's thinking of adding a "flare launcher" to it,,,,, WTF??? Are you nuts,,,, I tell him,,,just get a Bradley instead,,,,and get it over with,, they'll weigh just about the same when your done!! GEZZZ!!
