yep taurus 1911s are chock full of mim parts, ironically they uses forged frames and slides i think--

one thing that does bug me about the forged small parts is the price. like $60 for a safety lever?

i think they started making this MIM stuff just so they can CHARGE MORE for the forged stuff--LOL!

one of my 1911 has all steel parts the others have some MIM in them, though i do try to replace the critical things made from MIM with forgings like sears and disconnectors.

i don't think MIM is all that bad anymore . hell RIA/armscore uses mostly MIM i know of several with thousands and thousands of rounds down the tube.

i recently got some "charles daly" 1911 parts that are MIM. there not quite as cheap as the mason/swenson stuff. but i am sort of impress on how good they are and the fit and function.

i got a CD sear and a ejector too. i think i'll just have to build another 1911 to test them out--LOL

One of the positive attributes of MIM is that since the material has known shrinkage rates, the parts that are produced are extremely close to the finished size and need only a minimum of machining and fitting.

With any technology, experience improves the product.

lately i have noticed that MIM hammers seem to fit nearly perfectly. a MIM extended safety i just got was all most 100% drop in though i did polish off a few sharp edges. it fit the pistol perfectly well but was hard on my thumb--LOL

i think they have improved MIM processes quite a bit in the last few years.

the question is is it improved enough?
