Post1911 stainless steel vs blue/park for pistols!

stainless steel pistols --are they worth the extra $$??

while pistol shopping i noticed most makes of pistols have a blue/park model and a stainless for a little more $.

is the stainless worth it?

if so how much?

I can see stainless for a carry pistol that get thrown under the seat and held close to the body.

If it was for open carrying I think its just a cosmetic preference.

My current carry pistol isn't stainless (its cheap and functional PA-63) and it shows all the bruises prominently but it fires every time I pull the trigger

I voted ss because I'm a sweaty mammal. I do own a couple non ss pistols though.

Post1911

i guess i only have one stainless pistol. that is the 45 OSS. but it is plastic framed--

but i do have a stainless steel barrel in one of my glocks and the 1911 i built a few years back.

i have been pondering building or buying a 1911 for 2011 and am trying to decide what to get.

i did find a nice looking stainless pistol for a bit more than the blued. about $120 more to be exact --but it has more to it than just a stainless finish it is considerably more finished in the internals as well.

the other pistol i am looking at has a stainless barrel and bushing --but that it. if the rest of it was a forging "for sure" i would feel better about it.

I've got a stainless Springfield 1911 that has been lightly reworked- my shootin' buddies laugh at me for keeping it put away. It's just to damn pretty to get dirty-a safe queen. I do have a Rock Island that is blued and for a cheapo it more than does the job.

I think it depends on the pistol. I think 1911s look better "old school".

Well you know the benefits of stainless.
If you want a firearm in stainless but don't want the bling, paint or coat it, bling problem solved.

what kind of coatings look good and will stick well to stainless?

i kind of like the two-tone 1911s with stainless frame and black slide so what would be good to coat a stainless slide?

Any of the bake on finishes work well, but you have to sacrifice the polished surfaces as they only stick to a rough sandblasted surface. I prefer GunKote, but the other bake-ons have good reviews as well.
