Default Anyone shoot a big game animal with 5.45x39?

Whitetail deer that is... Just looking to see if anyone has tried it... I'm mulling the idea over, but wanted to see if anyone has any experience to draw on.

Cheers

I'm interested to see as well if anyone has experience with this. However there are some problems with trying to use 5.45. Softpoints group like shotgun blasts from what I gather. HP's don't expand like an HP should and do not tumble (as well or at all) like the FMJ does. Does your state allow hunting with FMJ?

I just saw a special on the Discovery channel where they took down a Siberian tiger with an SKS. Good show if you get a chance to see it.

I've taken a couple of whitetails with .223 hollow points.

No problem but they were hit good.

Check your state law, some states don't allow a .22 caliber bullet for deer hunting. The 5.45X39 is not really sutable for a humane and quick kill on deer sized game. You can kill an eliphant with a .22LR if you hit him in the right spot but that doesn't make it ethical or smart.

Someone who can't shoot won't get a humane and quick kill with a 50 cal.

It's the skill not the gun.

You can shoot a whitetail with a hollow point but shot placement is critical.
