Need a good rifle bipod for my Marlin bolt and have no idea where to begin.
Any suggestions?

Harris bipods snap right on your sling swivel stud and cost @ $70. I have one on my AR and like it. Lots of people sell them.

I have a Harris bipod and like it also. They make adaptors for many different models if your gun doesn't have a sling swivel stud. There is a screw that tightens up the bipod to the gun and another place to hook your sling to on the bipod. The legs retract a little for transport or for uneven ground and are offered in different height ranges. I've had mine for almost 20 years and haven't had any problems with it yet.

Ive got a versi pod($60) on my varmit build and the sling stud mounts on several other bolt actions I swap it around all the time Ive had it three years no problems has tilt and pan and folds up and the legs move up and down. I like it I havent owned a harris but hear good things about them. I just felt the versi pod looked a little cleaner with out the springs.
there are some generic ones that look very simular to the harris and some that look identical to the versi pod for a lot less.

I'm also looking for one for my AR15. In answer to your question. Figure out how you're most likely to use your bipod (prone, setting or standing). Measure the height that you'll need. That should help you to elemanate most of them. You may not want a "clamp on" as it contacts the barrel. How rough are you on your weapon? If you are rough on them then plastic may be out of the question. Do you have a weight concern for your weapon? If so, aluminum may be the way to go. Hope that helped.

Check over at gunboards for a model that's supposed to be coming out, one that the Army is reported to be seriously investigating: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
