Default The newest project

I've been collecting parts for my next project for the last few months. The hk91 receiver I've had for a number of years. It had some damage to the front trunnion area and the cocking tube. no worries we can rebuild it.

Just got a G3 barrel and the new trigger group and lower. I have all the parts need now.
Its time to start on the HK51 project...

First question. Which might sound like a newbie question but never having done it....What is the best way to cut and crown a barrel with hand tools?

All the links I'm working with.

Here is the low-buck method, basically a carriage bolt + valve lapping compound:

This is a bit more involved with a crowning reamer:

And some other info, i.e. special tools:

You could always send the unmounted barrel to a gunco member with a lathe.

If you're looking to pay someone for the service, there is a guy over on Falfiles who is highly recommended. He shortened a Fal barrel for me, rethreaded the muzzle and recrowned it all for somthing around $35-40. He has done this service for many on Falfiles and does a fantastic job

If you're interested I can dig out his name.
