Default PTR-91 flash hider question

I just bought a PTR-91. Still have to waite 10 days until I can pick it up, but what can you do about the law. The rifle has a smooth barrel at the muzzle. My question is how do the "press on flash hiders" work. How are they pressed on and what holds them on? This is new ground for me. All my other rifles are AK's so this is a little foreign to me.

I don't know much about the press on flash-hiders. I would try to get a smith to thread the end of the barrel, if it is illegal in Maryland to do this you could have the smith silver solder the 'hider on to make it more permanent. FYI muzzle brakes/flash hiders can significantly increase noise levels (My .223 Armalite is increadibly loud).

Dunno if the flashider on my PTR makes it noisier or not but it sure does it's job to minimise the flash.

I would call JLD and buy one of the ones that they put on (welded) and have it welded on.
This may help:
