Show me your Passport !!!!!

An elderly American gentleman of 83 arrived in Paris by plane.

At the French customs desk, the man took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry-on bag.

"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked, sarcastically.

The elderly gentleman admitted he had been to France previously.

"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."

The American said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."

"Impossible, Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in France!"

The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look, then he quietly explained, "Well, when I came ashore at Juno Beach on D Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find any Frenchmen to show it to."

The thing I find so interesting about the French armed forces(?) is their most highly regarded force is mainly made up of non French, go figure.

How true! But many of the Legionnaires aren't French by nationality either.

The legionnaires don't fight for the French, they fight for the legion. by the way, French citizens are not allowed to join the legion.

Not true at all. The primary tenant of the Legion is "to fight for France but never on French soil". That's why the hold posts in the ex-French sphere of influence. They are mostly expatriates but many foreigners also. French can join the Legion, but like numerous others they either do so under a pseudonym or as a citizen of another country such as an ex-French colony.

Incorrect, grasshopper (egad, I just had a "Kung-Fu" flashback).
Most officers of the Legion Etrangere are French, and the Commander is ALWAYS a Frenchman.
