Why are they not building more gas refineries in the U.S. Black Blade?
I watched a good show on the refineries.
The final test was a guy taking a jar of the refined gas, got on his bicycle and rode too the lab, too test the stuff.
Honest too God. Kind of funny..
Hell. We have some damn good Moonshiners down here in the swamps..
Give them swamp boys a license and tell them too cut the stuff too about 95 octane..
They could supply the whole state of Florida, for a buck a gallon.

The EPA has stopped the building and expansion of refineries and destroyed the coal mining business and coal-fired utilities. Now we produce oil and ship much of it offshore to foreign refineries to make Gasoline, Diesel, Heating oil and Petrochemicals to be shipped back to us.

Just remember guys, the AFL-CIO runs the trucking industry and it leader is as close to a Communist as the O-bomb is as a Socialist. Unfortunately those Union ass wipes could stop commerce in the U.S. as easily as the French govt. workers go on strike. Any time they find it convenient.

Tires= Petroleum $$$..
Food prices in the stores are going insane..
Trucks and trains keep this country alive..
My buddy tried trucking, after being out of it for 30 years.

YOu would be CORRECT!

According to NPR on the drive home last night, OPEC stated that there is a reserve of oil for the first time in 2 years (I guess they hit a threshold to announce it). This surplus reserve is due to an increase in production and DESPITE the Iranian emabargo (huge supplier) the reserve still exists.

So in other words the world has produced more oil WITHOUT Iran and has reached a 2-year high of supply.

DOes this mean cheaper gas prices? HELL NO - they stated that the Iran situation is driving speculation for higher gas prices. So in other words the world expects Iran to get invaded/bombed/whatever and that is keeping the gas prices high.

And since those financial wizards who budget and forecast how much the businesses are supposed to make every year couldn't possibly see how the gas companies could reduce their earnings (and thus lower profits) then the price of gas must be raised to maintain that income. The bottom line must be maintained after all!

All this paranoia thinking is the reason gas prices are higher. Period. I've read on websites about the diesel fuel "weakness" to our infrastructure, and to be simplistic, it is alarmist thinking. The Machine is simply too big to stop in the way that is claimed could happen. The US has a ***HUGE*** supply of gasoline... guess what... they keep it for just such an emergency!

Besides, the assumptions made overlook the local supply chains that aren't dependent upon diesel to run. In a really small example, think of your farmer's market. LOCAL producers selling to LOCAL people. Now think about that example being applied to the country.

Another reason is that diesel doesn't necessarily have to be PETROLEUM based. Diesel needs "oil" of some kind. Peanut oil, waste cooking oil, etc. I'm a big fan of biodiesel because it would make the US farmers the new oil barons of the country. However it doesn't seem to want to catch on in the US for some reason. Probably because there is too much money yet to be made in foreign oil. However biodeisel could supplement the existing diesel supplies in an emergency to stretch the supply even further if the biodiesel production could be increased.



Geez I didn't mean to type all this up... that oil reserve thing in the news last night really pissed me off when I got to thinking how the oil companies have us over the barrel and are robbing us of our money every time we hit the pumps just so their companies can remain profitable. I have to "pay" $20 every day just to go to work when I think about it.

There ain't no oil shortage that will affect "just in time" inventories to worry about - its all about the money!!!! PISSED!

hcp hit the nail on the head, no oil shortage, one of the main reasons gas costs so much is because the dollar is going down. Look at things that never lose value, oil, gold, silver etc. They are still within the same price difference as each other (percentage wise, or margin of value), they are all going up because the dollar is worth less or worthless.
And another thing with this "shortage" crap, just in the US, we have enough to last us (our needs) for at least 150 years that we know about.

Alternate fuels is a way to go for a lot of vehicles, there's a lot of cities converting their diesel engines over to natural gas, and it makes sense to have a vehicle that travels short distances to use this type of fuel.
