One handgun that I believe to be a good survival gun is the Makarov. This was the Russian Army’s handgun for many years. They were also made in a number of Communist satellites countries such as East Germany, Bulgaria, China, and several others. These are quality and dependable guns. They were partially copied from the German Walther PP. They are available for fairly reasonable prices.
They come in the caliber 9X18. That means the bullet diameter is 9MM (.363) and the case length is 18 MM. It fits between the 9MM Luger (9x19) and the American .380 (9x17). It is probably the minimum that I would want to use for self defense. But, it has been in use for many years and has stood the test of time.
It comes with an eight round single stack magazine. With one in the chamber, that will give you 9 shots. There is ample jacketed ammo available at this time. I would recommend 1,000 minimum ( that goes for any TSHTF firearm). But, for serious work I would recommend that it be loaded with Hornady’s Critical Defense ammo. That would make this gun a lot better defensively.
Another good feature of this pistol is that there is a replacement barrel available which is chambered in .380. That way, if the Communist ammo becomes unavailable, you can change the barrel (a special tool is needed) to an American caliber and keep shooting.
The Makarov is a smaller gun. It is thin enough to carry in a pocket. It weighs around 1.5 pounds. It would be a good gun for a woman. It would be a good concealed carry weapon. I would feel very well armed if I had to carry it for self defense. It has both double and single action and has a hammer drop decocker. That is so that you can decock it without worrying that it might accidently fire.
All in all, I believe that this gun would serve a survivalist very well. The prices are generally around $200 or so.
some body last week sent me a e-mail sale promotion selling brand new EG mak mags they were $25 or $25 a piece heck i used to get them for $8,
dealerwarehouse sells the parts kits, good to have if you have a few of these
not a walther copy so much, probably as much as a ak is a copy of a stg44

I didn't check, but I guess the current gun buying frenzy is sending all prices skyward. I still like my Makarov and it will be near by the rest of my life. And, Black Blade, I love your collection. I'm a little envious.
Go to the C&R section and look at his CZ82 collection
Here's one of his threads, check out page two [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I think that the CZ82 is a fine firearm. However, I have never had the opportunity to handle one. It shoots the same ammo as the Makarov 9x18. I would like to have a couple of them if they came along at the right price. I assume the current frenzy has pushed prices skyward!
They are nice, basically the same size as a MAK but with a fatter grip since it uses a double stack mag.
I haven't looked recently to see if anyone still have them, but for a price reference they were around $220 before the panic started and they are C&R.

I love the Makarov, but I'm more of a CZ man. The CZ82 and 83 are great inexpensive CCW weapons. Now after seeing BB's collection (thank you Coils) I'm BEYOND jealous!!!! LOL.

Me too. I've got a CZ83 and carry it when I go to downtown Indy...a good throw down piece. 45 is my caliber of choice!
