UPDATE Correction: The data on the UK is from 2003 and it is not new as prviously written however, newer data from 2009 shows gun violence in the UK has increased by 89 percent in the past decade, making the 35 percent figure insufficient. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I had this conversation with a person at work once, they used that "call 911 and the police will protect you" line, so the easiest way I could make them think about it was to say "so if I start punching you in the face your not going to do anything but call the police and wait for them to show up to stop me?", got the deer in the head lights look so I walked away.
