The best place to start is by initially removing the impediments.
Once your wife is gone, an enormous amount of room can be accessed on the dining room table.

I think once the wife is gone per above recommedation, you must define what your goals are, lay out the things you feel are abslutely essential. decide how long these preps should last. are you preparing for teotwawki or just short term issues? Do you plan on holding up where ou are or bugging out?

And whatever you do, DO NOT get another wife.
With the excess money you gain, go buy yourself a nice rifle and handgun.
maybe a new dog, perhaps you can train it to do the dishes.......... :

OH hell , go after 4th's idea and get a blow up doll. They talk back less, are always "willing" and you can use them as a raft in the case of a major flood.

If you run the wife off you will wind up with your girlfriend that is just as bad.
Or, worse?!?!?!

Start out by putting away 30 days worth of supplies. Then extend it incrementally until you meet your time goal. Absolute bare minimium would be 25lbs of white rice, 5 pounds of beans, 45 gallon of water, multi-vitamins, something to cook it with fuel for each person per month. Add support items as you see fit like water purification, medkit, solar battery charger plus batteries, radio, toilet paper, trash bags, lighting, etc... Add comfort items as you see fit, like sugar, coffee, spices, sauces, canned goods, trash bags, booze, etc... I am sure that I have missed some essentials, but there is a lot of info on the web with what you need, but always do essentials first. Also try doing it for a day or more to determine what you are missing or need to make it livable for you and your family. Somethings that you might also do is add backup items for some really important stuff like the means to cook your food.
