Damn near killed me. A combo of Cepro and Flagl (spelling?) knocked it out in no time though. Which brings us to another point. Stash antibiotics.

Cipro and Flagyl. Same as me. My whole family had it: me, the wife, 4 yo son and 6 mo daughter. I felt worst about the kids. We were both working, and the kids' daycare "gave" it to us.

couldn't agree more - FWIW I've learnt a bit about the aqua tabs
apparently the lifespan can be extended past the useby date by another 5 years if you double the dosage.
This became quite usefull for me recently when I purchased 1000 tabelts and they came through with only 2 years left on their shelf life.

Don't forget BLEACH - common and easily used. Do like I did and pick up a used 55 gallon food-grade drum (mine was found at a surplus store being sold for a paintball field) and run it full. My barrel has the faintest smell of pickled peppers (what the container originally held) and that computes to about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of bleach to preserve it. Store it in the shade and you're set for several weeks.

It also helps to have a fresh water supply close by - don't underestimate local resevoirs, ponds, golf course ponds, etc. as potential water sources (assuming of course you can purify it somehow).

A mention about the salt water conversion still - 2 things there that make it less than ideal - first is the amount of energ you need to produce to distil the water. Makes it less appealing unless you have an unlimited wood supply or something to keep a furnace going. Also, chemical contaminants that have an evaporative point lower or equal to water may be an issue. You'd distil that AND the water. Something to consider.

Um , this was a long time ago. Does anyone know if this magazine still exists of if a copy of the original article exists?

The magazine is still in print as far as I know. If you can't locate anything, let me know. I've got a copy, and I'll try and scan it for you. Greg

Some one please correct me if I am wrong, but here's how I have done it in the past and no one has died, YET.
Most modern tablets handle Giaurdia. Check the label.
1 teaspoon of bleach per gallon of water every 6 months.
Mass storage/ blue water barrels and a pump.
Expired tablets,? I don't know and I'd hate to be the poor guy that gets the screamin' sh#$s finding out. Filter everything questionable.
Barnes and Noble still carries the magazine (sometimes), here's a link to the back issue page on their site.[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
