Default Has anyone built a AR 15 in 243 Win.

Been out of the game for several years. And have started building a few 5.56 kits, but when a did a lot of hunting the 243 was my favorite cal. I saw in the Shot Gun News that Olympic Arms Inc. offers a 243 upper. I was wondering would you have to use a 308 lower and also the 308 mags?
It is my personal opion that the 243 AR would be a real good rifle. I would like to hear from you all, pros and cons.
Thanks
CAG

The only Olympic 243 upper I've seen was the 243 SSM. I've been tempted to get one as well, but for the cost I'd rather throw that money into an AR10 platform and build one in 243 Win.

DPMS, Armalite, Stoner, Remington and others make ar10's which operate just like the ar15's.

There are some companies making ar15's/m4's with a gas piston set up, direct impingement is still the standard gas system.

The ar10 is a 7.62x51/308 sized action, the ar15 is a 5.56/223 sized action.

Armalite [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

DPMS in 243 (they have a lot more in 308+ 762) [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

the link has a bunch of 308 type ar-15 parts, uppers, bolts and so on.

the 243 will require the larger AR-10 type framed parts.

ever consider building a 7.62x39 ar-15 though? -- much fun to shoot--

Thanks guys! I am not fond of the 7.62x39, good cartidge in a short AR or AK. I want something that will reach out there a little ways. I believe if I get some of my other guns sold I am going to build a 243WSSM. I looked the balistics up on that cartidge and I think it will work good for what I want.
Thanks
