a plastic/nylon 80% lower?
you know i often wondered about this --why no one has done it-
i have a cav arms lower for several years and it has been good. it is made of two big pieces and one end cap for the butt. you know i wonder how hard it would be to make a 80% finished lower kit? you know you could have two pieces and plasti-weld/glue/bolt or screw them together --then drill and cut out the sections for the FCG-- any reasons why no one has done it? :welcome: |
probably the difficulty of getting the proper plastic/polymer, I have seen this for years about trying to make polymer handguns, the closest I have ever seen was two halfs of aluminum or the use of airsoft receivers reinforced, great thread on this over at WG

well if it ain't that nylon shit it ain't worth doing in plastic generally speaking--
those hard plastic injection molded lowers just plain suck-- you might be able to do some kind of plastic/metal sandwich --in a home shop --and have a mold for two halves --then bond them together with sheet steel or aluminum reinforcements in certain breakage prone places maybe?? interesting-- you know i had some honeycombed aluminum laying around somewhere--LOL |
you know this has been done.. right?
unless the video is gone.. there was a guy making 2 piece HDPE lowers... on you tube.. now the aluminum bolt togethers? i just happen to have one of those laying right here on my desk which is BULLETS new design.. |
a cav is a two piece--never seen a plastic two piece 80% though--

I would say carbon-fiber would work fine. It is stronger than steel yet very light. It is expensive though and the rifle is already pretty light.
