Default AR Buffer Tube Extension

hey everyone,

it seems I'm a little bigger than the mil-spec GI, and I've kinda determined that my buttstock isnt long enough - I'd really like a 4"+ extention somehow. currently I've got the standard issue M4 6-position extend-o-stock, and shooting just isnt as comfortable as I think it could be.

any suggestions?

tried the a2 stock yet? it is the longest GI type stock.

the a1 and the m4/car type stocks are a bit short. they do give a little more room when wearing body armor though.

It's not 4" thick, but they make a rubber buttpad that fits over the collapsable stock buttplate. Do some searching, a few seem thicker than others.

If you don't mind modifying the stock permanently, you could buy a thicker pad with spacers designed for a shotgun and drill and tap the buttplate to mount it.

You could also modify your shoulder, a padded shooting vest or recoil pad will add a bit to the LOP.

If you have access to an AL welder, you could cut off the rear end of another CAR type buffer tube and weld it on as an extension.

j427x: I visited my local and had them compare the M4 collapsible stock (fully extended) vs. an A2 stock, and the A2 was longer - but by only 1/8"...good idea, though

kk: I'd considered the buttpad route, and if I cant find another option, I may have to go that route. what's the coating method on the milspec collapsible stock tube? parkerization or anodization? or something else?

thanks to both of you for the good suggestions

Brownells sells an extension kit that fits between the stock and lower reciever. I've used them and they work well on A2 stocks but am not certain if they work on an M4. A quick call to Brownell's help line would answer the question......
